The 1st reaction of Shubman Gill after having become captain of the Test in India: “As a young child …”

The newly appointed test test of India, Captain Shubman Gill, opened the opportunity and described it as honor. Gill was appointed Captain for the next series of tests against England, Rishabh Pant becoming his assistant. Gill, who played as a opener as well as No. 3 for the Indian Cricket team in the format, will succeed Rohit as captain of India. Gill said he was his dream as a young child of Captain India in the tests one day and added that it would be a huge responsibility for him.

“As a young child, when someone begins to play cricket, he wants to play for India. Not only play for India, but playing test cricket for India for a very long time. Being able to get this opportunity is a great honor and as you said, it is a great responsibility,” said Gill in a short video published by the BCCI.

Earlier, Ajit Agarkar explained the reason for the appointment of Gill as a test captain.

“We have discussed all the options that are there, in the past year, we watched Shubman at various times. I took a lot of comments from the locker room. Very young, but there was an improvement.”

“We hope he is the guy. He is a great player, our best wishes for him. You do not choose the captains for a tour or two tours. We have seen progress in the past year or two with him. Without any doubt, it will be as difficult as possible,” said the chief selector Ajit Agarkar on the elevation of Gill as captain.

The previous leadership experiences of Gill in the Indian team included a victory for the 4-1 T20i series in Zimbabwe last year and the vice-white ball of the winning team of the 2025 Champions Trophy in Dubai.
