Gen.G Esports advances to the round of 16 of the World Championship

Gen.G Esports swept Top Esports on Thursday to advance to the playoff stage of the $5 million League of Legends World Championship in Beijing.
Gen.G earned their third victory on the Swiss stage in the Round 4 High Match with a 25-minute victory in Blue and a 30-minute victory in Red.
Teams need three wins in the five-round Swiss stage to reach the elimination stage, while teams with three losses are eliminated. All matches are best-of-one, except for elimination and progression matches, which are best-of-three.
Eight teams will compete in the playoff stage, a single-elimination bracket starting October 28 where all matches will be played in a best-of-five format. The winner of the grand finale on November 9 will take home $1 million, including $800,000 for the runner-up.
Gen.G joined G2 Esports, Hanwha Life, KT Rolster, and Anybody’s Legend in the elimination round.
Also on Thursday, KOI eliminated Secret Whales with a 2-1 victory in a Round 4 Low Match. After Secret Whales opened with a 35-minute win in red, KOI responded with wins of 35 and 29 minutes, also in red.
