Thanksgiving 2025 Forecast: Chicago area could see several inches of snow Saturday through Sunday, meteorologist says

CHICAGO (WLS) — ABC7 meteorologists say the Chicago area could see up to nine inches of snow this Thanksgiving weekend.

An AccuWeather Alert was issued Wednesday as a cold front is expected to bring winds up to 50 mph.

A wind advisory is in effect from 3 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Wind chills will be in the teens and twenties throughout Wednesday.

Thanksgiving Thursday

ABC7 meteorologists Greg Dutra and Tracy Butler said Thanksgiving Day was expected to be dry but windy, with highs in the 30s.

The cold will persist for Black Friday with partly cloudy skies; Snow showers are possible in northwest Indiana.

Snow forecast

From Friday evening to Sunday morning, all eyes are on the snow forecast.

The latest European weather model shows between 6 and 10 inches of snow Saturday through Sunday, Dutra said.

However, the GFS weather model brings the Chicago area 4 inches closer.

Dutra said the storm system will arrive on the West Coast on Thursday and that’s when we’ll have a much better idea of ​​local totals.

Butler said snow began moving into the Chicago area around 4 a.m. Saturday morning.

The snowstorm is expected to turn into a snowy Saturday until it dissipates late Sunday morning.

A Winter weather advisory was issued for Berrien County, Michigan from 9 a.m. Wednesday to 7 a.m. Friday.
