Texas Tech coaches discuss supporting Ronald McDonald House charities

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – When you watch every Texas Tech game, be on the lookout for sacks.
Every time Texas Tech sacks an opposing quarterback, more money is raised, through pledges to the Quarterback SACK, to support the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Southwest.

Texas Tech head football coach Joey McGuire discussed this long-standing partnership between Tech Athletics and the Ronald McDonald House following the Red Raiders’ school-record nine sacks against Kansas.
“They’re excited, man,” McGuire said. “They want to hit the quarterback no matter what, but it’s always a good goal.”
Nine sacks in a game also matches the highest mark for any FBS program in a game this season. Tech now has 21 sacks this season.
Defensive coordinator Shiel Wood said Coach McGuire shared the SACK quarterback’s success with the staff and team.
“I think it’s great,” Wood said with a smile. “And the more bags, the merrier.”
McGuire said Ronald McDonald House staff messaged her about how much they raised and, sure enough, she said, ‘oh my God, nine bags!’
McGuire said he was putting that information into Power Point presentations Tuesday, to track the team’s progress. He then shares messages from the Ronald McDonald House with defensive and sack coaches, including David Bailey and Romello Height.
McGuire emphasized the importance of anyone helping others.
“All those things where you feel sorry for yourself or you’re in pain or something like that,” McGuire explained. “That can’t exist when you have an attitude of gratitude. And you have an attitude of…you’re a servant and how much you help people.”
How can you help

All proceeds help give back to families who need it most.
The Ronald McDonald House of Lubbock provides families with a home away from home when they have a child receiving medical care. Families staying at the Home may have a newborn staying in the NICU, a child receiving cancer treatments, or needing other medical care. Families at our local children’s hospitals, Covenant Children’s and UMC Children’s, can also take a break and grab a snack in our Ronald McDonald Family Rooms inside the hospitals. These rooms provide respite and comfort as well as access to basic necessities like showers, laundry, coffee, snacks and more.
