Texas A&M junior LB officially declares for the 2026 NFL Draft

Texas A&M’s draft statements continue to come in, and one of the program’s most respected leaders is now headed to the next level. Junior linebacker and team captain Taurean York has officially declared himself a candidate for the 2026 NFL Draft, opting out of his senior season after a standout three-year career in Aggieland.
York announced his decision Tuesday on social media, confirming he would forgo any remaining eligibility and begin preparing for the NFL. After three seasons as the full-time starter, tone-setter and emotional heartbeat of the Aggie defense, the move comes as no surprise, especially after a historic year at Bryan‑College Station.

Although 2025 was not statistically his most productive season, York’s value was never measured solely in numbers. As the quarterback of one of the best third-down defenses in the country, he consistently diagnosed plays, lined up the front seven and elevated the unit with his football IQ. What he may not have in prototypical measurables, he more than made up for in instinct, leadership and command. In many ways, he acted like a coach on the field.
York also fit perfectly into Mike Elko’s system, serving as a bridge between the coaching staff and a young, developing linebacker room. His presence helped accelerate the growth of the next wave of Aggie defenders, and his leadership became a defining trait of the program’s defensive identity.
His departure leaves another significant void to fill for Texas A&M. Yet his impact – on the field, in the locker room and within the program culture – will not soon be forgotten as he begins his professional journey.

The NFL Draft will take place in Pittsburgh from April 23-25.
