Terence Crawford says one man will always be his favorite fighter: ‘No one could beat him’

Terence Crawford has named his favorite fighter of all time, convinced the pound-for-pound legend couldn’t be beaten in his prime.
Analyzing “Bud’s” multi-faceted style, it’s clear that no single fighter is responsible for inspiring his dynamic approach in the ring.
According to Crawford, it was Roy Jones Jr and Floyd Mayweather who strongly influenced his love of boxing when he was younger.
In the case of former multi-weight world champion Jones, it may have been the American’s high-risk strategy that really got to Crawford.
Jones was so confident in his speed and athleticism that even when he appeared to be in a vulnerable position, the explosive technician always seemed to find a way out of trouble.
Not only that, but his sharp reflexes allowed him to fire attacks from angles that, more often than not, would only increase the devastating impact of his fists.
The same, albeit to a lesser extent, could be said for Crawford, whose elite footwork allows him to create angles that most other fighters would struggle to discover.
At the same time, the more measured side of his style could perhaps be explained by the influence of Mayweather, whose defensive abilities are studied and revered in gyms around the world.
In this sense, it’s almost as if “Bud” has merged the styles of his two boxing heroes, equipping himself with the best possible offensive and defensive skills.
But while speaking with Piers Morgan, Crawford insists a great Jones will always be his favorite fighter of all time.
“My boxing hero? Roy Jones Jr.
“He was unbeatable in his prime. Outside of the ring, he loved to fish, he loved to play basketball – anything to do with Roy Jones Jr, I idolized.
“And then when Floyd Mayweather came on the scene, when I was young, I used to run home and watch [Jones] and Floyd.
“But for me, Roy Jones Jr will always be my favorite fighter of all time.”
