Teofimo Lopez says world champion rival is boxing’s ‘most overrated’ fighter

Teofimo Lopez has delivered a damning verdict on one of his fellow world champions, calling him the “most overrated boxer” working today.
Lopez is the current WBO welterweight champion, making the most recent defense of his belt with a unanimous decision victory over Arnold Barboza Jr in May.
He also holds notable victories over Vasyl Lomachenko and Josh Taylor, but several of his other performances have only left fans wanting more, with lackluster performances against Sandor Martin, Jamaine Ortiz and Steve Claggett.
Lopez now looks set to return to action in January, as it was announced he will be involved in a mouth-watering super lightweight battle with WBC lightweight world champion Shakur Stevenson.
It seems Lopez isn’t a big fan of his rival, however, as speaking with Stories Untold, the American was quick to smear three-division world champion Stevenson while promising to prove his point when they face each other next year.
“I’m just going to say it – I think Shakur Stevenson [is the most overrated fighter in boxing].
“His style has diminished, but people amplify it like he really has the goods.
“I can’t wait until we can finally face [each other] in this square circle, and really showing the world [that he’s overrated].”
After winning world honors at featherweight and super-featherweight, Stevenson became world champion at 135 pounds in November 2023 and delivered arguably the performance of his career in July when he defeated William Zepeda in New York to retain his WBC crown.
