Ted Danson admits that Woody Harrelson never shows up for his podcast

We cannot say that the producers of Where everyone knows your name the podcast didn’t see this coming. From day one, the subtitle of the show — With Ted Danson & Woody Harrelson – stamped “SOMETIMES” on Harrelson’s name. Still, Danson probably never anticipated that Harrelson wouldn’t show up as often as he does.

Guest Jimmy Kimmel recalls Danson telling him about the podcast in its early days, and “one of the reasons you were doing it was because you didn’t see Woody Harrelson anymore.”

“Yeah,” Danson agreed. “By the way, I still don’t.”

Danson pointed out the show’s logo that overlooked the podcast. “We are considering crossing out ‘SOMETIMES’ and saying ‘RARELY,’” he explained.

“Rarely” would give Harrelson too much credit. When Harrelson arrived (via Zoom, of course) for last week’s Mark Ruffalo episode, listeners were probably surprised to learn that Harrelson was still with the company. He was nowhere to be found in recent conversations with Kathryn Hahn, Chelsea Handler, Howie Mandel, Patton Oswalt, Rob Reiner, Kate Mara, Tony Hale, Charlie Day, Judd Apatow, Seth MacFarlane, Greg Kinnear, Octavia Spencer…and that’s about where I gave up looking for Harrelson’s previous visit.

Kimmel laughed while offering a defense: “Woody is everywhere,” he offered. “He doesn’t like being stuck.”

“He also works non-stop,” Danson said without specifying that he somehow manages to film the second season of The man inside without eschewing its functions as a host.

Goofing off on Harrelson gave Kimmel the opportunity to share a Harrelson story, “truly one of the funniest things that’s ever happened to me.” Harrelson and Owen Wilson showed up at the Kimmel house for “a rare afternoon visit” and Kimmel, who loves to cook, fired up the outdoor pizza oven. He knew Harrelson was vegan, so he pulled out all the stops to make the perfect pie.

“They come and they’re a lot of fun,” Kimmel recalls. “They immediately enter into competition. It’s remarkable: they are like adult children.”

While Kimmel was cooking, Harrelson approached Jimmy’s wife, Molly. “He says, ‘Hey, do you mind? What’s the address? I want to order Domino’s.'”

Ordering a poor quality pizza while Kimmel prepared the gourmet version in the garden? “Look, I just have to tell you,” Molly replied, “Jimmy is going to be really upset if you order Domino’s. He’s very serious about his pizza, and you know, he cooked for you.”

Harrelson and Wilson were cuddling. They didn’t want to upset Kimmel, but also didn’t understand why their request would be a problem.

“It turned out that they wanted to order the game dominoes,” Kimmel laughed, an idea foreign to him and Molly. Is there a place that delivers children’s games in an hour?

But if anyone has a connection for a good time, it’s probably Woody Harrelson.
