Taylor Sheridan’s lowest-rated Paramount+ series remains a global streaming sensation

Taylor SheridanThe impending release of Paramount+ might be unstoppable, but its impact on the streaming service cannot be understated. At any given time, one or two of his shows are among the service’s top 10 most-watched, cementing his status as a prolific multi-hyphenate. However, his shows have not always been praised, especially by critics. Mayor of Kingstown remains Sheridan’s lowest-rated Paramount+ drama with 53% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. However, this low critical score hasn’t stopped the crime drama from captivating viewers with its intriguing tales of violence in Kingstown. The series remains a fan favorite around the world, including on Paramount+ in the United States. From Albania to Indonesia to the United Kingdom, the series remains one of the most watched on many local streaming services.

Mayor of Kingstown‘s low critical score is mainly due to the terrible score of the first season. Critics remained largely unimpressed by Mike McClusky’s speech (Jeremy Renner) fixer character as he tried to keep his town from collapsing under its own weight after his brother’s death. The season is currently rated at 33%. The second did not fare much better, garnering a score of 50%. Better, but it hardly improved the reputation of the series. Season 3 recently premiered, reversing the course of the series. Critics have praised it, as evidenced by the 77% score it currently has. In its review, Collider’s Jeff Ewing praised the season for leaning into what makes the series interesting while injecting new blood into the story. Ewing wrote:

“Everyone has an agenda, the danger is heightened, and the characters have reason to fear the multiple rhetorical sharks swimming in the waters. It’s a well-crafted season, anchored by strong performances, including some newcomers. [Edie] Falco And [Lennie] Jacques. Part of Mayor of KingstownThe success of this go-around depends on Sheridan and [Hugh] Dillon allowing the show’s characters to face real danger and suffer the consequences, leading to several surprising outcomes in an ultimately top-notch season 4. »

What happens in Season 4, Episode 7 of “Mayor of Kingstown”?

New episodes of Season 4 continue on Sundays, and next week’s episode features more moves. “Mike hatches a plan to grant Kyle’s (Taylor Handley) freedom and gives Ian (Dillon) a distressing task. Moses (James) plays a play that leads to brutal consequences for the cartel’s leaders. Callahan (Richard Frein) explores new avenues to reach Mike,” teases the episode’s logline. Will Mike succeed?
