Sydney Sweeney played in a forgotten horror flop by John Carpenter

John Carpenter has not made a feature film since the release of “The Ward” from 2010, a thriller from the mental hospital with Amber Heard. He also came after a long break in Carpenter’s Carpenter’s career, because he had not released a film since “Ghosts of Mars” in 2001. His only director concerts in the interval were two episodes of the anthology project “Masters of Horror”, released in 2005 and 2006. Carpenter was no longer prolific … and he seemed to love him. He often mentioned in interviews that he was content to compose music at home and during the hours with video games. Once upon a time, he expressed happiness that so many of his films had been redone (“Halloween”, “Assault on Précinct 13”, “The Thing” and “The Fog”) because he receives a pay check to do absolutely no work. Carpenter is a refreshing and unpretentious filmmaker.
“The neighborhood”, rather confusing, came and came in 2010 without much fanfare. Despite Carpenter’s status as one of the most famous horror directors of his generation, most people have ignored “the neighborhood”, quickly leaving theaters. The film made only $ 5.3 million on its 10 million dollars budget, and it remained a little obscure; It is not currently available to broadcast on the main commercial services (although we can see it on Kanopy and Pluto TV).
In the film, Heard Plays Kirsten, a young woman who engaged in a psychiatric establishment in 1966 due to an access of amnesia. She is told a lot about how she was previously patient there, but Kristen cannot trust anyone. Kristen is hypnotized and has visions of a girl, a mysterious figure with long blond hair. Does this person in his past? Is it? Is it a ghost? The mysteries of “The Ward” will ultimately be revealed.
What we can say with certainty is that the mysterious girl, named Alice, is played by Sydney Sweeney, now one of the current “IT” girls of Hollywood.
Sydney Sweeney plays the girl in dreamlike flashbacks in the district of John Carpenter
Sweeney, of course, recently got importance thanks to her performance as a Cassie in the successful series “Euphoria”, but she continued to work in mega-hits like “anyone but you”, the “Reality” biography and the “Immaculate” satanic thriller, which she also produced. Sweeney is also an informed business woman, is constantly jostling to be the spokesperson for a wide variety of consumer products, from bikinis to drinks to soap. She is one of the most visible actors of her generation (she is only 27 years old), and is often cited as one of the most beautiful.
Sweeney acts professionally since 2009 (when she was 12 years old), appearing in the feature film “ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction” and the television series “Heroes”. “The Ward” was one of his first credits, playing, he will finally be revealed, the younger version of a character named Alice (Mika Boorem), only dresss in flashbacks. Sweeney did not have much to do in “The Ward”, but it was surprising that it appeared alongside several other notable ingenues; In addition to Heard and Boorem, Mamie Gummer and Danielle Panabaker also appeared.
It is difficult to talk about the story of “The Ward” without giving your giant turn. The general configuration is that Heard’s character is locked in an asylum with several other young women who all have wild and excessive personalities. They are all hunted down by a grotesque monster (Jillian Kramer) who seems to hell by killing them one by one. Kristen also sees the ghost of a former asylum resident (Boorem), as well as flashbacks on his youth. Sweeney’s presence is an indication as to the true nature of the conspiracy of asylum. She has scenes to be chained in a basement, moving the words “help me”. Everything is very scary.
You can find online photos of Carpenter posing on photos with the future superstar. Critics were not terribly nice to “The Ward” (he has a 33% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 72 criticism), but it is actually quite good (if he is a bit predictable). Check it.
