Sydney Sweeney on ‘The Housemaid’ and hopes for a sequel

Sydney Sweeney was familiar with the novel “The Housemaid” when she landed the lead role in Paul Feig’s film adaptation.
“It was juicy, it was delicious,” she told me Monday at the film’s Los Angeles premiere. “I couldn’t put the book down. I remember opening it, and you know, when you’re like, ‘I’m going to open this, read a few chapters and then do something else,’ I didn’t move from my seat from the moment I opened it until I was finished. It was so good. The characters, the twists and turns, all of it, so I knew I really wanted to be a part of it.”
Sweeney stars in the erotic thriller as a woman with a dark past who is hired as a maid for a wealthy couple, played by Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar.
There is already talk of a sequel. “We want to be able to give people what they want,” Sweeney said. “It’s such an amazing community of book lovers and we would love to make another movie.”
Feig said, “Let’s just hope this one does well, because we’re ready to do another one.”
Sweeney was attached to the project when Feig signed on to direct it.
“It was amazing,” Feig said of working with the “Euphoria” star. “She’s so lovely and so easy to work with, and she’s the most professional person I’ve ever met. She comes on set and is ready to go, she’s prepared and brings an extra level to everything she does. She’s one of my heroes, I tell you.”
Seyfried talked about his first day on the job with Sweeney. “We were doing one of these tests with a light camera, and we realized right away that we were the same shoe and exactly the same height, and we thought that was really interesting. And I think it was just the fact that we were so in love with the book, and we couldn’t believe that we were making this movie, that we just related. Plus, we have the same process. She doesn’t take herself too seriously, and neither do I. I think that’s where fun comes into play.”
“The Housemaid” is in theaters now.
