Swiatek, Tauson Clear Paths to a Wimbledon confrontation

Wimbledon-With a net and clean victory 6-2, 6-3 on Danielle Collins on the central field on Saturday, Iga SwiTek is a victory for the equality of its best result at the All England Club.
To achieve this, she will have to go through Clara Tauson in a Monday match in the fourth round. Dane, 22, lost 7-6 (6), 6-3, the Wimbledon 2022 champion, Elena Rybakina. Tauson has lost its first three main drawing games here, but rallied to bring together three in the space of a week.

Upon entering this third round match, Rybakina had the best record of the All England – 21-3 – of any woman on the field. As the match progressed, you could see the intrepid tauson accelerate through the steep learning curve on this delicate surface.
In the end, Tauson managed to mark a break from the powerful Rybakina service – out of 10 break opportunities – and was not broken.
Swiatek settles in
After losing against Aryna Sabalenka in the semi -finals of Roland Garros – it was a disappointing 6-0 in the third set – Swiatek fell for a few weeks. Instead of playing WTA 500 events at the Queen’s Club and in Berlin, she chose to train on the grass in Mallorca. This decision borne fruit because she won three games against great players before falling to Jessica Pegula in the final – her first in more than a year.
The victory over Collins was the sixth of Swiatek in seven games this year on Grass, and it looked comfortable doing so. She broke the Collins service four times and was uninterrupted herself. Poland’s 24-year-old is now 8-2 in matches against Collins.
It’s 19th Round of 16 for Swiatek in a big slam – most of any woman since her beginnings at the Grand Slam five years ago – a striking contrast with the two of Tauson.
History for Tauson, sorrow for Rybakina
Tauson has already equaled its best result of the Grand Slam – its 16 hour round last year in Roland Garros. He ended with a defeat against Jabeur Ons.
In the greatest number, a victory on Monday would give him the best result of Wimbledon obtained in the era opened by a woman from Denmark. Caroline Wozniacki reached the fourth round six times but has never taken the next step.
“I did not expect it, Tauson told journalists. “I have never had very good results on the grass. I came here with a little confidence to do a few laps. But winning against Elena was certainly going to be difficult work – and that was the case.
“But I played some of my best tennis, and it was obviously a great feeling of winning today.”
It was a disappointing performance by Rybakina, which failed to take advantage of a main draw which had already lost six top 10. It was the first time in five appearances here that it failed to reach the fourth round.
Rybakina lost only seven games in her first two games, but lost as much in equality in the first set. It was 6-everything when she hammered a setback after the basic line and failed to win a straight return.
Go ahead …
Swiatek won the only match she played against Tauson – three years ago at Indian Wells in three sets – but Tauson was still a teenager.
With Rybakina out of the draw, the two highest seeds in the lower half of the draw are n ° 7 Mirra Andreeva and n ° 8 Swiatek. They could meet in the semi-finals.
