Warning! Spoilers Ahead for Law & Order: SVU season 27, episode 1.Law and order: SVU returns with a major loss for Olivia Benson and the NBC franchise as a whole. The oldest TV show is back with a lot of exciting things to come, including the full -time return of Kelli Giddish Amanda Rollins. It is therefore quite shocking to learn that the year opens with a death of a massive franchise.
Given their work line, Benson and the rest of his team are not foreigners in danger. All faced certain situations that have almost killed them. Benson herself was kidnapped and beaten several times. However, NBC and Wolf Entertainment managed to keep Law and order: SVU ‘S The main deaths have at least.
The last time a major character in the series is dead is when The disappearance of Richard Belzer reflected Munch’s fate in the series. Law and order: SVU I did not make a big noise on the question, only refer to him with a brief toast. His last death, however, is much more heartbreaking and, frankly, even in mind.
Law & Order: SVU season 25 kills Captain Cragen after 35 years in the franchise
Instead of the usual case configuration which opens an episode, Law and order: SVU Season 27 begins with the death of Captain Donald Cragen. Benson goes to her memorial, where she finds her colleagues member of the original distribution, Dr George Huang and Brian Cassidy. After a few jokes, she joined Sonny Carisi and End Tutuola.
For the context, Cragène was originally a character from the original Law and order seriesBeginning in “Prescrion for Death”, the program of the program in 1990. At that time, Cragen was already captain – a role he kept for a few more decades and more important when he became a main member of the distribution when Law and order: SVU in 1999.
Certainly that Cragen retired from the service in 2014, he continued to appear in both Law and order: SVU And, more recently, in Law and order: organized crime To undoubtedly find his best detectives – Benson and Elliot Stabler. This maintained it relevant and active in the franchise.
Why the death of Cragen is so disappointing
Cragen’s impact and contributions to Law and order The franchise cannot be overestimated. As Benson said, everything she knows how to be a captain, she learned from her former boss. In addition to being a work mentor, Cragen was also a paternal figure for Benson and Stabler.
Recognition of Belzer’s death by Munch makes sense, but it is questionable to know why NBC and Wolf Entertainment have decided to kill Cragen now. Dann Florek is still aliveAnd was even on the set when they filmed Benson and emotional stable outside of his memorial. There does not seem to be any narrative reasoning to kill it – at least right now.
Even if Law and order: SVU To a greater narration plan involving his death, the brief memorial at the start of the first in season 27 is disrespectful towards the heritage of the character in the franchise. At the very least, the show should have staged an appropriate meeting with him and even just Benson and stable before biting the ball.
