Season 3 of the Foundation finally explains the most ambiguous mystery of the show

“Foundation” would not necessarily be considered a spectacle of mysteries, in the vein of many productions inspired by JJ Abrams which tried to recreate the magic of “Lost”. Throughout its three seasons, the Apple TV + series was content (mainly) to keep all its cards in sight, without literally decreasing centuries of history in the universe in a simple way, because we have looked at the Empire of the galaxy slowly fall into disintegration while the foundation rises to larger heights. However, from time to time, the showrunner David S. Goyer and his writing team remind us that they TO DO Have a talent for the dramatic when the time is asking for it. In the last episode of season 3, a subtle moment between two opposing forces could just solve a mystery established from the start.

Would that shock you to learn that everything revolves around Gaal Dornick? Represented by Lou Llobell, our unpretentious protagonist represents the Nexus point punching on the two main elements of gender in play in “Foundation”: SCI-Fi and Fantasy. A brilliant mathematical prodigy and a unique mind (the cheesy term of the show for people who can read the spirits, use telepathy and other fantasy psycho accidents), Gaal continues to play the most full role to ensure that the plan of the genetic dynasty (Jared Harris) is preparing for the inevitable fall of key clones and their genetic dynasty. But a particularly useful quality – its gift of precognition – has always been treated as a fact. Of course Someone of its high status and its narrative importance would be able to detect the visions of the future and to see the destructive threat of the planet of the mule (Pilou Asbæk) coming from 150 years … right?

Well, season 3 has finally seen fit to shed a little more light on this subject and potentially solve one of the most ambiguous mysteries remaining throughout the “Foundation”.

Even the all-awakening Hari Seldon could not have anticipated it. Like her daughter Salvor Hardin (Leah Harvey) before her, Gaal Dornick is considered an “aberrant value” – an individual of such rare capacity as the advanced mathematics of Hari were simply not designed to account for him. This is largely due to her foresight powers that she did not even know that she had before the second season of “Foundation”, when she finally realized that she used her sixth sense to influence her actions in the present. This is how she knew that her lover Raych (Alfred Enoch) was about to help Hari ‘suicide in order to transform him into a martyr at the start of season 1. (he improved, of course.) He explains why she felt the destruction of the Sky on Trantor bridge, secretly ordered by Lady Demerzel (Laura Birn), a few seconds before she happened. And, more importantly, it solves this moment of the eyes and the entry into flashing during the first season when she woke up in a way during a faster than light jump through the hyperspace – something that no normal human being should be able to do.

This last part is the key, in the end. Episode 6, entitled “The Shape of Time”, continues immediately after the end of the cliffhanger last week. The robot Demerzel rose aboard the Gaal ship and the two enemies, the representatives of the Empire and the foundation respectively, are all put in place for a calculation. Things quickly become violent, of course, but Gaal desperately offers an olive branch when it reveals the existence of the second foundation and maintains that the two are more aligned in the plan of Hari than they think. One revelation leads another, and it is only a matter of time before Gaal admitted that his ability to see the future helped the second foundation to influence the state of the galaxy for hundreds of years. When asked how it was even possible, Gaal returns to this important scene and explains how the experience completely changed its design of time:

“I saw my life like a line, then as an airplane, then I wrapped this plane around me like a blanket, and it was a form that I could handle. And I admitted that I had pulled parts of my life to me.”

Some of us could sometimes have an out of the body experience, but Gaal has literally rewritten the future.

Leave it to the “foundation” to answer a question while, at the same time, inspiring countless others. The prolonged sequence between Demerzel and Gaal provides the main backbone of episode 6, a pivotal meeting of two very Different spirits that undoubtedly affect the course of history-whatever history, that is to say, with only four months before even the projections of Hari Seldon predict the extinction of the human species. But while Gaal’s premonitions leave Demerzel with a lot of material for reflection, do not sleep yet another Major twist that upsets everything we thought we knew about this story.

Season 1 quickly turned out to contain much more importance than we could have thought at the time, and this last double episode. Throughout the show, we saw flashbacks at the first meeting in front of Hari Seldon with the three Clones of Cléon, represented by Brother Dawn (Cassian Bilton), Brother Day (Lee Pace) and Brother Dusk (Terrence Mann). In trial (with its acolyte Gaal) for its heretical and seditious theories that the Omnipotent Empire would one day collapse in ruins and by emerging from the suffering widespread for the whole universe, the passionate calls of Hari to simply listen to the mathematical fall in the deaf ear … or that was what we thought, at least. Here, we discover that all Hari’s speeches were in fact intended for Demerzel, the faithful robot programmed to advance the agenda of the genetic dynasty. Incredibly, she actually believed to prove Hari and even helped to contribute to mathematics that developed the long -range forecast of the main radiating device.

Perhaps the notion of friend and enemy is more complicated than we thought. A little more than half of the season, “Foundation” has already upset several of our hypotheses on the way in which previous events have finally decreased.
