Suryakumar Yadav shockingly defends his horrible T20I form

Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav’s declining form has become one of the major talking points ahead of the upcoming five-match T20I series against Australia, which begins on October 29 in Canberra. Once hailed as one of the most destructive T20 hitters in the world, Suryakumar Yadav now finds himself struggling with poor form and increasing criticism.

In 2025, the Indian captain’s numbers have been alarming, accumulating just 100 runs in 11 T20I innings at an average of 11.11. For a batter with over 300 T20 innings and nearly 9,000 runs in his career, Suryakumar’s slump has left fans and pundits perplexed.

Even during India’s successful 2025 Asia Cup campaign, the star hitter’s contribution with the bat fell far short of expectations. He scored just 72 runs in six innings with a strike rate of just 104.22. What makes the story even more dramatic is the stark contrast between his recent form in India and his blistering IPL 2025 season.

Suryakumar Yadav said in the pre-match press conference: “I feel like I worked really hard. It’s not that I wasn’t working hard before; I was then too. And I’m still working hard. I had a few good sessions at home and 2-3 good sessions here.

So, I’m in a good space. I think it’s really important. It works, it will come eventually. But I think I will work hard to achieve a team goal. What’s more important is what the team expects from you in different situations, and I take it one game at a time. If it starts, I think it will be a good thing.
