Suryakumar Yadav safely for the moment because BCCI puts the dreams of Captain T20i of Shubman Gill on hold.

The veteran team of India Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will return to international action in the next three-game series against Australia later this month. They have not played any competitive cricket since the IPL 2025 season, but have recently undergone fitness tests to be available for the selection and will play under Shubman Gill.

Virat and Rohit have withdrawn from T20is and tests and will now only play in ODI for India. They will have a limited exposure to international cricket before the 2027 World Cup. The duo has not represented India since March 2025, according to the Blue Champions Trophy of Blue in Dubai.

According to a PTI report, Shubman Gill should also succeed Suryakumar Yadav as Captain T20 following the World Cup in India. Meanwhile, the outcome of the tournament is considered to be less important.

“Shubman Gill should also take over the reins of Suryakumar Yadav after the T20 World Cup in India,” said the report.

“The result of the tournament will be immaterial as is the case with the triumph of Rohit as a skipper of the Champions Trophy. The cumulative result of these three aspects is that the international career of Rohit Sharma is at the end,” added the report.

Suryakumar Yadav led India as the 2025 Asian Cup in the Water

Suryakumar Yadav took over Captain T20i from Rohit Sharma last year. Under Rohit, Suryakumar had experienced key moments, including a memorable match winner in the T20 2024 World Cup final.

Suryakumar led India to its first trophy under its mandate by winning the Asian Cup. However, his individual striker performance was disappointing. He only scored 72 points in six rounds on average by 18, with a better score of 47 undefeated in the group phase against Pakistan.

India prospered under its direction in T20is, winning the six bilateral series while suffering only three defeats in Zimbabwe, South Africa and England. The team will seek to maintain this momentum during the next tour in Australia.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are not part of long -term plans for the 2027 World Cup

The Indian cricket undergoes a major transition under the head coach Gautam Gambir and the chief selector Ajit Agarkar. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli ended their T20i careers after the victory of the India World Cup in June 2024 and moved away from tests earlier this year.

On Saturday October 4, Agarkar named Shubman Gill as a new ODI ODI captain during the team’s announcement for the Australian tour, with a former BCCI jokingly jokingly like “Ga-Ag”, reporting a clear change in direction.

According to a PTI report, Gambir and Agarkar have already started planning while thinking of the ODI 2027 World Cup. They believe that Rohit and Kohli may not be long-term options and have promoted Gill as part of the team’s future strategy.
