Suryakumar Yadav left out of squad, 33, named captain

Indian T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav has been left out of Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad for the upcoming Ranji Trophy opener against Jammu and Kashmir, which begins on October 15.
The Mumbai team had already announced that seasoned all-rounder Shardul Thakur, who has been a consistent player for the Mumbai team, would be named as the skipper of the Ranji Trophy team. This decision was taken in line with Ajinkya Rahane’s resignation from office.
Skipper Suryakumar Yadav, meanwhile, is expected to captain the Indian national cricket team in the shortest format of the game. Their next assignment will be on the Australian white-ball tour, which includes 5 T20I matches starting October 29.

Suryakumar Yadav ruled out, Shardul Thakur named Mumbai captain
The Mumbai cricket team will kick off their Ranji Trophy 2025 campaign against Jammu and Kashmir at the J&K Cricket Stadium in Srinagar. So they named the team for the first match, and Suryakumar Yadav is not a part of it.
The senior selection committee of the Mumbai Cricket Association, comprising Mr. Sanjay Patil (Chairman), Mr. Ravi Thaker, Mr. Jitendra Thackeray, Mr. Vikrant Yeligeti and Mr. Deepak Jadhav, selected veteran and young players to represent Mumbai in the opening match of the Ranji Trophy.
This closes the door for Suryakumar Yadav’s return to the longest format of the game for India. The batter scored 8 runs in his only Test innings, post for which he has not been cited for any other format of international cricket other than the T20I format.
Sarfaraz Khan will make a national comeback; Shivam Dube also named in Mumbai Ranji Trophy squad
Mumbai have named Sarfarz Khan for a comeback after announcing his comeback following the injury he suffered during the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament. He is all set to play in the team alongside his younger brother, Musheer Khan.
The batter was not considered for selection in the Indian Test squad for the ongoing series between India and West Indies. Tushar Deshpande also returns to the Mumbai setup after missing the entire 2024/25 season due to an ankle injury. Mumbai lost to Vidarbha in the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy final.
While top players like Sams Mulani, Tanush Kotian and Siddhesh Lad were named in the squad, Shivam Dube was named in the squad alongside India U19 skipper Ayush Mhatre.
