Superman has trunks in the DCU but what about Batman? Here’s what James Gunn has to say
In a recent interview, Superman Costume designer Judianna Makovsky revealed that David Corenswet’s steel man is wearing emblematic red baths was a last -minute decision.
“There were a lot of people who didn’t want memories, and many people who did it. And James was very divided. And I must say that I refused to abandon,” said Makovsky.
In the end, it was decided to follow the classic look, but does that mean that Superman created a previous one? Fans should also expect Batman, Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter and other DC heroes to follow the last son of Krypton’s fashion choice?
“”We have not decided. And the trunks are good. We will see what’s going on“Said Gunn Comicbook. He continued to add, “I think it is less likely that some of the other characters would have trunks. It is more part of the Superman costume than that of Batman, even if he had a lot of trunks in the comics.“”
It seems that there will be a specific reason in the film which explains why Superman carries his red trunks outside his costume, but the discussion took another tower to avoid a spoiler.
THE First look at David Corenswet’s costume was revealed in May 2024, and there were a lot of discussions on these parties, focused on the decision to include memories.
More than a year later, public opinion has moved significantly, many fans now looking at the more positive costume.
While the initial reactions to the motionless image have been decidedly mixed, the costume seems to resonate much better when seen in motion, where its design, its texture and its presence come to life on the screen.
When it comes to knowing if other heroes should bring back the classic trunks of the DCU, Batman is an unlikely candidate by Gunn, because his modern design has largely moved from this look.
However, characters like Martian Manhunter have a long story to wear similar “outdoor clothing”, rivaling almost rivalal on the story of Superman with the emblematic style declaration. For some heroes, the trunks remain a nostalgic part of their visual heritage.
