“Superman” finally climbed into theaters, and with it comes a richness of cameos and fun references to its origin of comics.
This is what we expect from director James Gunn, a lawyer for Uber-Fan since the age of three.
In addition to the references to Easter eggs (search for a road panel leading to Gotham City, among others), the surprise cames of the new film go from ridiculous to tear. It turns out that many of these actors appeared in many if not the previous films of Gunn.
Filling the substantial shoes of a Marlon Brando, Cooper appears at the top of “Superman” in the ice fortress of loneliness, in a pre -recorded message as a Kryptonian father of Supe (David Corenswet). Brando played the same character in Richard’s “Superman” giving in 1978 with Christopher Reeve, but he refused to appear in the role in the following two years later. Cooper could be more open to playing the role again – after all, he is one of the actors of Gunn, after having expressed Rocket Raccoon in the films “Guardians of the Galaxy”. Defeating Jor -El’s wife – and Superman’s mother – Lara is the ethereal Angela Sarafyan, who previously shone like Clementine in the “Westworld” series on television.
It’s a real moment in a full circle to see Will Reeve – son to Christopher aforementioned – in the new film. The young Reeve was born after the four “Superman” films in which his father appeared was completed. He was 12 years old on the death of his father. Now corresponding to ABC News, it is natural that Reeve represents a journalist in the field in the new film. It is also emotional and appropriate to see the son of Christopher Reeve – who, with his brothers and sisters, has kept his heritage alive – appears in a superman film.
Bentenly on the more silly side, John Cena makes a surprise appearance during one of the most playful sequences in the film (there is a pile). While his character of a morally doubtful and supremely clumsy DC, Pacquemaker, Cena presents herself as a talking head in a news program while Clark Kent and Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) have a heart to heart, just like a wild interdimensional battle is played simultaneously in the background (it will make sense when you look at him). The “Peacemaker” series featuring Cena was an early and unexpected success for Gunn in his mandate with DC in 2022, with a second season for next month. (“Peacemaker” is a production of HBO Max, which, like CNN, belongs to Warner Bros. Discovery.)
Gunn likes to keep his family near. The director puts his brother Sean in as many projects as possible – look no further than the “Guardians” films, in which Sean Gunn played Kraglin and also physically played the role of Rocket on the set before being nicknamed by Cooper. He also portrayed the belette and the calendar man in “The Suicide Squad” of 2021. In “Superman”, Sean Gunn briefly appears as Maxwell Lord, a threatening DC character who was previously described by Pedro Pascal (in “Wonder Woman 1984”) and Peter Facinelli (in “Supergirl” on television).
Make a deep dive on the distribution credited for “Superman” appears some “guards” galactics of Gunn, notably Michael Rooker and Pom Klemetieff as robots in the fortress of loneliness. Kallegieff brought the wacky humor as Mantis both to the “Guardians of the Galaxy” (starting with the franchises “Vol. 2” of 2017) and “Avengers”, while roofer collaborations with Gunn Go back. In addition to playing Yondu in the volumes of “Guardians” 1 to 3, the actor appeared in the coarse horror opus of the director “Slither” of 2006, as is his Costar of “Superman” Nathan Fillion. The other regulars of Gunn appearing in “Superman” include Mikaela Hoover and Stephen Blackehart.
Towards the end of “Superman”, the steel man is visited by his Kyptonian Kara cousin, also known as Supergirl, dressed in the classic outfit that recalls Helen Slater in the 1984 Costarring Fayaway film. Now played by Milly Alcock, which has stood out in the Netflix series this summer “Sirens”, Supergirl shows its wilderness during its brief cameo, during which viewers also learn that it is the real owner of Krypto the beloved so unruly Superdog. Alcock will be back in the role in the film “Supergirl” of next year.
The anchor of CNN Jake Tapper appears visibly in the background at a given time as a news correspondent. He first had a dialogue, but it turns out that he found himself on the floor of the cutting room for the time, according to Gunn.
Friday, “Superman” is presented in theaters. The film is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, which belongs to the mother company of CNN.
