The Norovirus epidemic on the Royal Caribbean cruise has increased nearly 100 people on board

Norovirus is a common and very contagious disease that can cause diarrhea, vomiting, nausea and stomach pain, generally occurring 12 to 48 hours after exposure to the virus. People can contract norovirus through contaminated objects, surfaces, food or liquids, as well as sharing meals or utensils with someone who suffers from the disease.

There were 19 gastrointestinal epidemics on cruise ships this year, 14 of which were caused by Norovirus, as recorded by the CDC.

“Gastrointestinal diseases, such as those caused by Norovirus, are very contagious. They can spread quickly in closed and semi-closed environments, such as cruise ships,” said the CDC.
