Stunning Trailer for “Deeper” Doc Profiling Cave Diver Richard Harris

“What am I looking for in this cave? I never felt like I belonged there, but as soon as I put my head under the water, it felt like a refuge for me.” Dogwoof & Madman Films has released the official trailer for a documentary film titled Deepera fascinating profile of a unique individual. The film, by the famous director Jennifer Peedom (among the exceptional documentaries Sherpa, Mountain, River), follows the famous cave diver Richard Harris alias Harry Harris. This comes after Harris was involved in the infamous Thai cave rescue in 2018 as one of the key divers during the remarkably delicate rescue. Years later, after gaining worldwide fame from this rescue, Harris risks diving into New Zealand’s potentially deepest cave system on an exploration mission. As he pushes the limits underground with limited air, he questions his motivations and his impact on those close to him. It follows him and his team diving into what is known as “The resurgence of Pearse” (more information here), a network of underwater caves that could become the deepest cave dive in human history to date. It sounds scary but also quite moving and invigorating, a glimpse into how far deep down, some people pursue their passions.

It is produced by Blayke Hoffman, Paul Ryan and Jennifer Peedom. This was originally shown at the 2025 SXSW Film Festival earlier this year.
