Water restriction, updates of financial obligations and reports: updates to the School Board

South Lake Tahoe, California – The Lake Tahoe Unified School District School Board met on Thursday to discuss upcoming water restrictions, updates to U, the financial report for financial year 2024-2025 and receive a presentation on the school levels of Sierra House Elementary.

Board of Directors

Miri Luckssinger, member of the student council, noted that the students were delighted with the next fall matches for volleyball, football, cross-country and tennis. The school musical will be “Chicago” and the shows will start on November 7.

Superintendent Todd Cutler spoke of the presentation of the Student Advisory Council at the conference of the Association of School Districs (SSDA), which occurred earlier during the day. “They did an incredible job by sharing the way they work together to share their concerns, their ideas and their reflections on how our district meets their needs.

Cutler has also recognized the impact of September 11 and “all the difficult things that we continue to go through in our countries”.

During the reports of the Association of Employees, South Tahoe Educators’ Association (STEA) thanked the board of directors for their collaboration during the negotiation. “Your desire to listen and work with us has enabled us to increase our health care ceiling that will help our members share the burden of rising health costs,” said Nicole Mora, president of Stea.

Mora also recognized the victims of school fire across the country and asked the board of directors to examine its security protocols.

Water restriction

Lauren Benefield, specialist in water conservation at South Tahoe Public Utility District (STPUD), spoke of the impacts of AB 1572. The legislation, adopted in October 2023, prohibits the use of drinking water to irrigate non -functional lawn on commercial, industrial and institutional properties. Benefield noted that STPUD only provides drinking water in the community, such as legally, they must send recycled water from the basin.

Since the LUTSD is an education establishment, they must adopt the modifications by January 1, 2027, and STPUD would be required to enforce compliance. Benefield said that the Board of Directors and LTUS staff would meet the STPUD conservation team to assess the non -functional lawn on the properties.

STPUD provides a lawn buyout program and a landscape consultation in terms of water, which would help replace the lawn on campuses. Each school site would qualify individually, which makes each site eligible for up to $ 5,000.

The city also makes efforts to eliminate the lawn, in particular along Ski Run and US Highway 50. They cultivate their own plants to replace the lawn – the board of directors has considered the possibility of doing so or buying excess plants in the city.

President Lauri Kemper was very sustained from future work, because she worked for 30 years at Lahontan Water Control Board. “I like to remind the public that when people came for the first time to Lake Tahoe … They sat on dirt and had picnics, and there was nothing like the lawn. In general, this is not necessary in my opinion … and our habitat and our native species prefer less lawn. ”

Sierra House Elementary

Director Karin Holmes presented the Sierra House primary school plans for the year. The school currently has 378 students, with 76 students receiving special services, 211 students who had made our future surveys and 69 learners in English.

Holmes underlined the illustrative mathematics pilot, which the school included in its unique information plan, and their current work to increase the school’s attendance figures. She also underlined the work of Mandy Miller, Kim Yuan and Casey Donahue to support social emotional support and learning.

The board of directors expressed that they would miss Holmes, who said it would be his last year as director. They also praised its previous successes.

They plan to submit their conceptions concerning Tahoe Valley and South Tahoe High School to the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) by the end of the month, to complete the development phase of the design and to complete the rainwater pollution plan before November.

The Council approved the proposal for the study on the Special Education of the LTUSD in the spring of 2026, which would probably take place in February or March. Darrell Miller, president of the Community Advisory Committee for Special Education, said: “We are impatient to work with SSC and provide comments … I think it is really important that it is a collaboration effort in this process.”

Finally, the Director of Affairs Kelly Buttery presented the financial report for the financial year 2024-2025. Their total turnover was $ 60.9 million, with 65.5% of these funds from local control formula funds. Total spending was $ 62 million, whose wages and benefits represent 83%.

Total income was lower than those scheduled due to property taxes, fund factors for federal, state and local income and local control. However, expenses were lower in books and supplies, services and other operating expenses. This led to an increase in the end of the balance of the $ 2.6 million fund. Buttery said: “Many cuts that we made towards the end of the year have really borne fruit.”

The uninated report was approved unanimously by the board of directors.
