Stuart Broad launches full-scale attack on David Warner and Australia; the weakest labels

The Ashes rivalry between England and Australia is already heating up, with tensions escalating well before the first Test. Recently, David Warner made some bold predictions for Australia, and now Stuart Broad returns with an even deadlier delivery.

Speaking at an event, Warner had claimed that Australia would sweep aside England 4-0 if Pat Cummins was fit and would still win 3-1 if the skipper missed his chance. The destructive former opener suggested Australia would chase the Ashes urn, while England would just fight for “moral victory”.

Verbal row breaks out between Stuart Broad and David Warner over Ashes 2025-26 prediction

This prediction sparked a verbal argument between Stuart Broad and Warner. The former England fast bowler called the current Australian team the weakest they have fielded since 2010. Notably, England last won the Ashes series in Australia in 2010.

Broad also highlighted how injuries to key players, withdrawals and poor form have left holes in Australia’s once-dominant line-up, putting added pressure on the hosts to perform in the upcoming five-match Test series.

He also pointed out that Australia still has some quality players, but their collective experience and consistency is much lower than in the past.

Stuart Broad hits back at David Warner, calls Australia weakest team since 2010

Stuart Broad told Jos Buttler on their ‘For The Love of Cricket’ podcast: “You wouldn’t be far-fetched to think – it’s actually not an opinion, it’s a fact – that this is probably the worst Australian team since 2010, when England last won, and this is the best England team since 2010.”

He added: “Australia have been very consistent with their plans and their approach, and they’re running out of it. The question really is which team is under pressure, and I guess it’s Australia.”

Stuart Broad notably recalled the 2010-11 Ashes series, the last time England managed to win in Australia. This is a historic feat as the English team beat Australia at home with a convincing score of 3-1 in the series.

What did David Warner say?

Taking a look at England, Warner had said at the Fox Cricket event: “The Australian way because we’re playing for the Ashes and they’re playing for a moral victory. There’s your title. I’m going to stick with 4-nil. I’m thinking 4-nil. There’s going to be a disaster somewhere; it’s usually Sydney.”

Warner further noted: “Australia has to be a big favorite. The question really was, ‘Which team is under the most pressure?’ Well, Australia is under the most pressure because they are expected to win. They are great at home. But they have question marks on their team and question marks on [the fitness of] captain [Pat Cummins].”

Notably, Australia’s plans for the 2025-26 Ashes face a massive setback with Pat Cummins dealing with ongoing back stress issues.

The star pacer’s fitness leaves doubts over his availability for the first Test in Perth. The injury could also affect his participation in the rest of the Ashes series. The 2025-26 Ashes series is scheduled to begin on November 21 in Perth.
