Star Wars makes The Empire Strikes Back’s AT-ATs much more dangerous

Star Wars just made Imperial AT-ATs much more dangerous. Made famous for his debut in the 1980s The Empire Strikes Back During the Battle of Hoth, the Empire’s all-terrain armored transports are iconic machines of Imperial warfare. However, Star Wars just gave walkers the craziest upgrade.

Star Wars: Visions Vol. 3 has just started streaming on Disney+, offering a brand new collection of non-canon animated tales from various studios. This includes Project Studio Q’s “The Song of Four Wings,” a new Star Wars Visions story featuring the most powerful and intimidating AT-ATs ever seen.

Star Wars Just Gave the Imperial AT-AT Walker a Devastating Upgrade

As seen in Star Wars: Visions Vol. 3 Episode 2, “Song of the Four Wings”, shows a princess-turned-rebel saving a young Force-sensitive child while she encounters an Imperial mining operation.

Although he is armed with a droid capable of transforming into a mechanical suit inspired entirely by X-Wing, this rebel heroine still faces some truly impressive Imperial might, as two AT-AT walkers literally emerge from the ice and begin opening fire.

Likewise, one of the walkers reveals a major upgrade, activating several hidden cannon sites behind his back before unleashing a volley of seismic charges (a devastating weapon made famous by Jango and Boba Fett’s Firespray).

Although victory is won by the Rebel Princess and the two walkers are defeated alongside the Empire’s mining robot, these new AT-ATs were incredibly intimidating and easily one of the coolest parts of this latest volume of Star Wars Visions.

Interestingly, AT-ATs have received some serious attention this year in particular.. First, Din Djarin’s sabotage of a convoy of interior walkers served as a key exclusive sequence for next year’s film. The Mandalorian and Grogu at Star Wars Celebration 2025, with the film’s first trailer revealing even more shots of the walkers during the New Republic era.

Star Wars: Visions Vol 3The first episode also debuted a pair of AT-ATs, although these were converted to a gambling den in the world of Sith Ronin.

Even LEGO added to the AT-AT attention this year with its recently released Gingerbread AT-AT Walker (40806) for the holidays. Overall, it’s pretty cool to see that one of the Empire’s most impressive vehicles is still so popular around the world. Star Wars franchise as it was when the AT-ATs debuted 45 years ago.
