Bye-bye Barcelona?
With the news that the Spanish Grand Prix will be held in Madrid from next season, it has the potential to be the last one-prix of Formula One organized on the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit. Without any news on the future of Barcelona, home drivers Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz hope to keep it on the calendar.
The Spanish Grand Prix has taken place in Barcelona since 1991. Fernando Alonso himself won twice on the circuit in 2006 and 2013. Lewis Hamilton won six victories on the track, a record he shared with Michael Schumacher, while Max Verstappen has four; three in the past four years.
Inventive rules changes
The FIA should submit strict requests concerning the flexibility of the wings before cars. This will increase the load that wings can resist, deviation allowances under a reduced state load from 15 mm to 10 mm.
A change of rule announced at the end of January, to prevent the teams from completely exceeding their wings before initials, will come into force in Barcelona, having given the teams time to adapt. Many in the paddock believe that it could be a turning point of the season and a potential changer.
Barcelona is also generally the track where we see teams upgrading. Could there be more to come teams on the grid to keep the Grand Open Championship?
