Sovereignty goes beyond journalism to win the Kentucky Derby 151st

Louisville, Ky. – Sovereignty gave coach Bill Mott a second victory for Kentucky Derby. This time there was no doubt about this and no asterisk.
Sovereignty has exceeded favorite 3-1 journalism on the section to win the 151st derby in the Sold on Saturday, taking a slip 0 for 13 by the owner Godolphin.
Mott won his first derby in 2019, also on a sloppy track, when Country House was raised at the first time that the maximum security crossed the finish line first and was disqualified for a 22 -minute delay.
It took a few minutes for the results of Saturday to be official while the stewards settled a photo for second place and examined a start of traffic.
Mott knew everything that won the garland of red roses.
“This one came in the right direction,” said the renowned temple coach. “I mean, he did well, he is a big horse, he comes from a great organization, and I cannot say enough about the horse and the organization that started it and made it happen.”
Godolphin is the racing stable of the sovereign of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
It was a whole weekend for the sheikh. Friday, his filly, good humor, won the Kentucky Oaks. And earlier on Saturday, the court in power – a son of the winner of Triple Crown 2018 Justify – won the 2,000 Guinea in Great Britain.
“I had a fairly long relationship with the Godolphin team and the man behind Operation Godolphin, Sheikh Mohammed,” said Mott. “I’m just honored.”
Sovereignty, also raised by sheikh, has won in 1½ length and splashed through the 1¼ miles in 2: 02.31. He paid $ 17.96 to win at 7-1 dimensions.
The victory was worth $ 3.1 million on the $ 5 million handbag.
“It’s great,” said Mott. “I think it will take a little time to sink.”
Journalism did not have the cleanest trips in the 19 horsepower field, but rallied to stay in the fight. He found trouble in the first round, and Jockey Umberto Rispoli swung him outside to highlight him. They took a step to leaders with sovereignty and junior Jockey Alvarado just behind them.
“He said to me:” Listen, I’m ready, “I started to resume,” said Alvarado about sovereignty.
The two colts connected for a sixteenth of a thousand for an exciting battle against the context of 147,406 rumming fans and soaked in rain before sovereignty rushed to the eighth pole and does not stop.
“I saw the blue silks [of Godolphin] Coming to us, and I knew it was the one who was going to have to worry us, “said Michael McCarthy, the trainer of journalism.” The winner ran a better race. “”
Alvarado, a 38 -year -old Venezuelan, won his first derby in six tests. He and sovereignty were united after Alvarado missed the last departure of the Colt in the Florida derby because the jockey was injured.
“It’s more than a dream come true,” said Alvarado. “I thought I was a great chance. I was confident all week.”
Baeza with a quick fence, which entered the race Thursday after Rodriguez was scratched, was a third row neck. Final Gambit finished fourth and all-powerful Owen finished fifth.
Citizen Bull, the only entry for a derby coach, Bob Baffert, gave the pace. Buffe was back on the first Saturday in May, after serving a three-year suspension by Churchill Downs after his medina spirit crossed the finish line first in 2021 and failed a post-space drug testing.
D. Wayne Lukas, the fourth winner of Derby, 89, saw his promise Colt American end just behind Baffert in 15th.
The rain made a soggy day, with the band of churchill downs dirts listed as slumped and the fans protecting their fantasy hats and their clothes with transparent plastic ponchos.
Burnham Square was sixth, followed by Sandman, East Avenue, Chunk of Gold, Tiztastic, Coal Battle, Neoequos, Publisher, Citizen Bull, American promised, rendering judgment, steering wheel Mohawk and admire Daytona.
