Sources: Texas’ state offer expecting to join PAC-12

Texas state officials informed the Sun Belt conference that they expect to offer a CAP-12 in the near future, sources in ESPN told ESPN.

The talks between the state of Texas and the PAC-12 have intensified in the last 24 hours, according to ESPN sources, although an official offer of the PAC-12 in the State of Texas has not yet been delivered.

An official offer is planned in the near future, according to sources, because the state of Texas is in talks to join the League for the 2026-27 school year.

This would be the next step in the nuptial parade, which would not officially end until Monday due to the required process. To officially accept an offer to the reception, the state of Texas should convene a meeting of the Council of Regents, which requires 72 hours of notice to meet, according to the laws on the State of Texas.

PAC-12 officials also alerted the solar belt of talks with the state of Texas, according to sources. Texas State has been the big favorite to join the League for months.

This anticipation increased this week because the exit costs of the state of Texas to reach the PAC-12 for 2026 double from $ 5 million to $ 10 million on July 1. For the official approval of the Board of Directors and to avoid the repurchase, the invitation from the State of Texas should arrive late this week.

The state of Texas would become the eighth member of the League football, which the PAC-12 needs at least to operate as a FBS conference. (There would be nine in total, including Gonzaga.)

The membership of PAC-12 football for 2026 consists of Oregon State, Washington State, Boisse State, San Diego State, Colorado State, Utah State and Fresno State. Gonzaga does not sponsor football but will also be in the league.

Texas State is a school of 40,000 students which gives the PAC-12 a presence in the state rich in Texas football. He joined the WAC in 2012 under coach Dennis Franchione and entered the Sun Belt a year later.

The state of Texas held a verbal offer in the fall to reach the West mountain, but finally refused this.
