Sources: Emma Meesseman to join Liberty in Wnba Return

Emma Meesseman, the MVP of the 2019 WNBA final, which has not appeared in the League since 2022, is committed to joining the defending champion New York Liberty, sources said in ESPN on Monday.

The arrival of Meesseman in New York will be subject to the duration necessary to go through the visa request process, sources said.

The 6 -foot -fetch striker of Belgium was a huge difference when she played in the league. The double all-star of the WNBA collected on average 12.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists per match for the Chicago sky in 2022.

Before that, she had played seven seasons with the Washington Mystics, where she helped lead them to a championship in 2019 and won the MVP of the finals in the process.

Meesseman, which earlier this summer competed in Eurobasket with Belgium, also considered Minnesota Lynx and Phoenix Mercury, sources said in ESPN.

Its decorated international CV includes two heads on the All-Star Five Olympic teams (in Tokyo and Paris), two MVP Eurobasket honors and three consecutive Euroleague MVP offers.

With Meesseman’s commitment, the rich are enriched as liberty seeks to become the fourth WNBA franchise – and just the second in the past 20 years – to repeat as champions. The Liberty already has some of the best WNBA players in Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu and Jonquel Jones, the latter who is expected this week from an ankle injury that put the touch of a large part of the season.
