President Donald Trump gave his strongest index on Saturday so that he could deploy federal troops in Chicago by publishing a meme parody of himself as commander at war with Chicago. The post attracted a quick reprimand by the Illinois governor, JB Pritzker and other officials who said it was a threat.
In the image, Trump, known to provoke his opponents with his wise use of social media, is called the character of Robert Duvall in “Apocalypse Now”, an epic of War from Vietnam on a decorated American officer who has become thug in the Cambodian jungle.
“I love the smell of deportations in the morning …”, wrote Trump above the image, a play on the famous quote from the 1979 successful film.
“Chicago is about to find out why this is called the Ministry of War,” he wrote, followed by three helicopter emoji. He came one day after having signed a decree that changed the name of the Ministry of Defense at the Ministry of War.

The post seemed to cause a Pritzker and the mayor of Chicago, Brandon Johnson, who both strongly opposed Trump threats to activate the National Guard in the windy city to suppress crime and help improve immigration efforts.
In the image, Trump is dressed in military fatigue resembling the character of Duvall, Lieutenant-Colonel Bill Kilgore, a flamboyant and intrepid aircraft cavalry officer who runs an air assault by helicopter in a Vietnamese village.
The helicopters fly over the roofs of Chicago in an ardent background, evoking Vietnam war scenes.
The text “Chipocalypse now” is scribbled at the bottom of the image, a riff on “Apocalypse Now”, with “Chi” referring to Chicago.
Trump’s boost seemed to work. In less than an hour, Pritzker retaliated, Johnson also weighing.

“The President of the United States threatens to go to war with an American city,” said Pritzker on X “It is not a joke. It is not normal. Donald Trump is not a strong man, he is a frightened man. The Illinois will not be intimidated by a Wannabe dictator.”
Johnson has transmitted similar warning words.
“The threats of the president are in the honor of our nation, but the reality is that he wants to occupy our city and break our constitution,” wrote Johnson. “We must defend our democracy of this authoritarianism by protecting each other and protecting Chicago by Donald Trump.”

Another critic from Trump Franc, Senator Dick Durbin, D-ill., Also criticized the position on Saturday during the remarks before a parade in the Pilsen district of Chicago.
“This tweet this morning was disgusting to suggest that the troops enter Chicago or that the Ministry of War will be engaged is a discomfort,” said Durban, according to Fox 32 Chicago.
Trump has repeatedly floated the idea of deploying the National Guard in Chicago, reproducing operations in Washington, DC, which has also seen the federal government take control of the local police.
The national guard units sent without approval from the State are generally limited to the defense of property and federal staff. When the guard troops were deployed in Los Angeles in June for anti-immigration demonstrations and customs demonstrations, they were confined to federal buildings and escort tasks for immigration agents. In Washington, DC, which is under federal competence, the childcare units carried out armed patrols alongside the local police.
