Let me start by noting the evidence: what we saw yesterday with the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel by ABC News was a cheeky and shameless attack against freedom of expression in the United States in an unimaginable way until a few months ago. He manages to be both shameful in his audacity and his crime while being absurd. It is not a closed newspaper or a prohibited political party. It is an actor’s program removed airs. But dictators and authorities never like actors. These are jokes, not warriors. Their launcher therefore strikes and responses are oblique in their approach and more difficult to react.
I don’t want to participate in “how bad is it?” speech. It’s bad. We know it. An apolitical person told me yesterday that all the development was “scary, scary”. I accepted. So why don’t you seem more upset about it? This person asked. Because I already knew we were here.
All I have time is what we do in response. So some reflections on this front.
