SNL parodies Michael Irvin in new video ahead of Miami’s CFP title game against Indiana

One of the most memorable things about Miami’s run to the College Football Playoff national championship game was Michael Irvin’s energetic celebrations on the sidelines while supporting his alma mater.

In fact, they were so memorable that they caught everyone’s attention. Saturday evening live.

SNL spoofed Irvin in his final episode with Kam Patterson impersonating the Hall of Fame catcher.

“My resting heart rate is a perfect score: 16,000,” Patterson joked.

Irvin’s passion is understandable, since the Hurricanes are in their first-ever CFP and just one win away from their first national title since the 2001 campaign. The program that dominated the 1980s and early 2000s is one win away from returning to the top of the college football world, and one of their most famous former players is enjoying the ride.

Irvin played at Miami from 1985-87 and helped the program win the national title his senior year.

The Dallas Cowboys then selected him with the 11th pick in the 1988 NFL Draft, and he built a resume that included three Super Bowl titles, five Pro Bowl titles and seven seasons with more than 1,000 receiving yards.

For all the work he’s done on the sidelines during Miami’s CFP run, he might be able to add another championship to his resume if the Hurricanes beat the top-seeded Indiana Hoosiers in Monday’s game.
