Sluncet of the blocks, Syracuse seems to have “fun” against Uconn

The quarter-arre of Tennessee Joey Aguilar (6) passes his defensive back of Syracuse, Duce Chestnut (2) during the AFLAC launch match between the volunteers and Syracuse held at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, in Georgia, August 30, 2025.

After a first match of the humiliating season, Syracuse coach French said that he hoped that a more relaxed atmosphere will lead better results on Saturday afternoon when his team welcomed UCONN in non-conference action.

After a season of 10 wins in the first year of Brown on the sidelines, the Orange has lagged behind 17-0 against then-no. 24 Tennessee last Saturday. Syracuse has returned a bit but never really threatened the volunteers during a 45-26 defeat in Atlanta.

Steve Angeli, a transfer from Notre Dame, launched for a career summit of 274 yards, while Yasin Willis ran for 91 yards and three scores. The areas where orange fought included a precipitated defense (6.2 yards per race) and a third defense (7 of the 12 authorized conversions).

Perhaps the increased expectations for 2025 have obtained the best of Syracuse, which will seek to bounce against a UCONN team which it has beaten five consecutive times.

“We are just ready to go out and have fun this weekend. I’m always going to make sure the players have fun,” said Brown. “It is important that they always have fun and understand that there are simply no moral victories. We are 0-1, and it is not a good deal. We want to go on the winning side of the column, so that we can continue to try to face the things we have to face.”

Uconn (1-0) beat the Central Connecticut 59-13 on Saturday while Skyler Bell captured two Touché passes, including an 80 yard strike. Joe Fagnano finished with three TDS passers -by and a precipitation score, while Cam Edwards accumulated 115 yards and a touch on only six races.

If anything, the coach of the Huskies, Jim Mora Jr., tries to ensure that his accusations do not undergo concentration after their resounding victory of week 1.

“Each day is a new day. … We focus on being the best possible every day,” said Mora. “We make the corrections on Sunday and Monday, then we go to Syracuse. … We are concentrating. We reset. … And then you have to focus on a very good team this week.”
