There were really devout: those who were sprayed in ethereal black coats, fishing nets, lace, sparkling masks and jewelry (I looked at a particularly pious fan was forced to leave and return the metal detector four times, put more and more gold jewelry to the safety goalkeeper as you go). Then, there were 30 years tattooed, the Gothic couples decorated in matched black lipsticks and black jet hair, fans in buttoned shirts and shiny shoes that came from work, and the husbands and women of Gen X with their anxious adolescent children, eager to see what it was all the thumb. If I were the sleep of the divinity, I would have been satisfied with the number of very different people who had gathered to love in my name.

The Barclays Center packaged and closed concert with Sleep Token is not surprising, given the few astronomical years that anonymous rockers have had. Their latest album, Bring me back to EdenHas struck the No. 16 on the Billboard 200 in 2023 – an impressive feat, since all the eyes were on hip -hop for its 50th anniversary. Their fourth and last album, Even in Arcadiawhich was published in May via RCA Records, then struck the n ° 1 on the Billboard 200. The 10 tracks also appeared in the lower half of the Billboard Hot 100, cementing the fantastic group as crossover Hitmakers. This diversified attraction was obvious in the stories of introduction of varied sleep tokens of fans.

After the opening set of Thornhill’s Rockin ‘gave birth to the place, I listened to two worshipers exchanging tokens. One of them had come across a sleep token during a music festival a few years ago and was hung on the group’s teachings since, while the other had proven to be in New York Rural York just to be in the evening show. It was his first time in New York. After an hour of gabbing, the curtain finally went down, and the opening agreements of “Look to Windward” began to sparkle. While the voice of the leader’s ship filled the Barclay rooms, the veteran simply said to the novice: “Take advantage of the ritual!”

The ritual was electric. Helped by the Espera vocal trio, the songs of Sleep Token filled the stadium with the ship while the ship shouted and crossed its way through the group’s greatest successes – from “the offering” to “caramel” to “The Summoning”. The guitars and drums collapsed in tandem, while each member of the group wandered with casualness through the surprisingly detailed whole, which included rocky levels, Spitfire lasers and even a fully functional cascade.

The ship also struck a lot of what has become its Hop Skip Dance movements, its posture inspired by Vogue, and even gave IV a massage in its own right while the guitarist would make his way through his guitar solo “The Summoning”. The light juxtaposition of the presence on stage of the vessel with the nature of bad mood and solemn of the music of Sleep Token served as a good reminder that, even apart from all the traditions, it is only a really solid rock group with songs that have a heavy punch when they are interpreted live.

The ship never addressed to the public, and there was no “thank you, New York” at the start of the group, but the fans – who shouted all the syllables and mosse the biggest drops – did not seem to care. The songs wore a greater emotional meaning for fans of Sleep Token, and in classic token fashion, the group presented itself as a simple delivery system for them.
