Six California Great America flags could soon close its doors permanently.

“Unless we decide to extend and exercise one of our options to extend this lease, this park last year without this extension would be after season 27,” said the financial director of Six Flags, Brian Witherow, about Santa Clara Park, California. The comments were made during the answer to a question of audience during the day of investors of the company’s six flags on May 20. The news followed the announcement of May 1 that Six Flags America in Bowie, Maryland, closed at the end of the 2025 season.

“These are two parks that are very low in the margins,” added Witherow.

This means that the park of more than 100 acres would close in October 2027 after the Halloween season. The park opened its doors in 1976 under the Marriott Corporation as Great America de Marriott.

In 2024, the parent company of the park, Cedar Fair, merged with six flags in an agreement of $ 8 billion. Two years earlier, Cedar Fair had sold 112 acres of land under the park for $ 310 million in Prologis, a logistics company from the real estate channel and supply. The company of the amusement park agreed to rent the land for six to 11 years, announcing plans to close the park at the end of the lease. The initial rental contract should end on June 30, 2028, with an option to extend the conditions of an additional five years to 2033. However, the company has not yet announced a lease extension.

“We have chosen Prologis as a partner because of their deep ties in the Bay region and their reputation for working in close collaboration with local communities on major developments,” said the president and chief executive officer of Cedar Fair, Richard A. Zimmerman, via the press release in June 2022.

Prologis is already making plans for the field: “We focus on identification and partnership with planning and design experts to help us create a property plan for property,” wrote spokesperson Jennifer Nelson in an email at the Los Angeles Times in January.
