Singapore GP: George Russell dominates the race as a championship of manufacturers of McLaren Win, but Oscar Piastri, Lando Norris Contact | F1 News

George Russell dominated the Singapore Grand Prix while Lando Norris reduced the Oscar Piastri championship after the McLaren pair was contacted very early.
Norris experienced an assault departure, but he collided slightly with the teammate Piastri in the first round to take the third where he would finish the race, behind Max Verstappen after a hard battle during the second place.
Piastri had to be satisfied with fourth and sees his advantage on Norris reduced to 22 points in the title race, but McLaren sealed the defense of the championship of their manufacturers with six laps to do – a joint record for the earliest than the title was won.
The celebrations were slightly overshadowed by the first McLaren drama where Norris immediately took his elbows from the fifth on the grid by exceeding Kimi Antonelli, then his teammate Piastri in turn 3, by glowing the back of Verstappen and, above all, cutting Piastri widely.
The Australian was furious against the move, declaring “it’s not fair” on the radio and suggested that Norris had broken McLaren’s commitment rules.
The first four finished where they finished the first round while Russell was worth his second victory of the year, after his triumph in the Canadian Grand Prix of June, and Verstappen retained Norris to also reduce his deficit to Piastri to 63 points.
Piastri suffered a slow stand that prevented him from joining the podium battle, Kimi Antonelli taking fifth during his first outing of Singapore.
Lewis Hamilton underwent a late braking problem but managed to finish the race in seventh, behind his Ferrari teammate, Charles Leclerc.
However, Hamilton is under investigation for having exceeded the track limits in the last round while he was fighting against Fernando Alonso who got back from a slow stand to finish eighth advance on Oliver Bearman from Haas and Carlos Sainz de Williams who used the alternative strategy by operating for a long time in the first pass.
Norris’s daring surpassing leaves Piastri furious
The 10th Championship of McLaren manufacturers is a testimony to culture and the environment created by the director general of McLaren, Zak Brown, and the director of the Andrea Stella team, but the couple is perhaps confronted with their biggest test to date after having aggressive from Norris on Piastri in the first round.
Norris has undergone minor damage from the front wing, but was able to continue without biting after having rubbed the back of Verstappen and established contact side by side with Piastri, who almost also hit the wall and explained his feelings on the radio.
Piastri: “So, are we cool with Lando who makes me burst or what is it?”
Piastri’s engineer Tom Stallard, “We look at him. Let me answer you.”
Stallard said later: “No other action by the delegates. As a team, we can see that Lando had to avoid Verstappen, so we will not take any measure during the race. We can consult further.”
Piastri replied: “It’s not fair. I’m sorry, it’s not just. If he has to avoid another car while crashing into his teammate, then it’s a nice job to avoid.”
Although McLaren has never established its “papaya rules”, also known as racing commitment rules, public, it is largely believed that contact is not authorized between the duo. Piastri was warned to strike almost Norris in Austria and Hungary, which underlines it.
The move largely dictated where the McLarens finished the overtaking were so difficult around the tight circuit of the rue de Marina Bay.
Norris tried to put pressure on Verstappen, which started on the softs compared to the other frontal on the mediums, during the first pass but could not get close enough.
A similar scheme followed when the pilots opted for hard tires, but Norris could not make a serious overtaking attempt despite the race for less than a second in Verstappen for most of the last 15 laps.
Piastri ran in a fourth lonely because he does not have the pace of cars in front and was also injured by a stop at the 5.2 seconds stand, the third consecutive race that McLaren was a slow stop.
At the front, Russell checked procedures and, apart from calling blue flags during traffic, never looks agitated.
