“We are very excited to welcome Bobby (Shuttleworth) and his family to Aggieland and have him lead us into this new era of Texas A&M football,” Alberts said. “Bobby is a proven winner as both a coach and player with experience developing high-level talent. His strong leadership and competitive outlook give him a great understanding of what it takes to succeed at this level. We are confident that Bobby will elevate our program while supporting our student-athletes both athletically and academically.”
“I am incredibly excited and truly honored to accept the role of head football coach at Texas A&M University,” Shuttleworth said. “My family and I are deeply grateful for the opportunity to join a place that means so much to so many people, and we look forward to becoming a part of the Aggie community. Texas A&M has a proud and successful history, built on a tradition of excellence, commitment and the relentless pursuit of victory. It is an honor to be entrusted with leadership of such a respected program. I look forward to building on that legacy and serving this university, our student-athletes and the 12th man with passion, integrity and pride.”
The day after helping Florida State win the national championship with a 1-0 victory over Stanford, Shuttleworth moved to Aggieland. He has spent the last four seasons on the Seminoles staff, serving as associate head coach the past two campaigns. He helped FSU win another NCAA title in 2023, as well as a third College Cup in 2022.
Shuttleworth, who mentored goaltenders among his primary duties, had one of his star pupils shine in the national championship game victory. Goalie Kate Ockene made nine saves as FSU won despite outshooting 18-8.
During his time at Florida State, the Seminoles posted a 70-7-12 record. FSU had the highest winning percentage in the country during that span at 0.854. In 2023, Shuttleworth was part of the United Soccer Coaches National Coaching Staff of the Year after leading Florida State to the first undefeated season in school history. FSU has accumulated a 30-6-4 (.800) league record in the ACC, the nation’s premier football conference.
One of the hallmarks of Shuttleworth’s time in Tallahassee was playoff excellence. The Seminoles were 17-1-1 (.921) in NCAA Tournament play during his four seasons. FSU posted a 5-0-3 (.825) mark in ACC Tournament games, collecting championship trophies all three years from 2022-2024.
Shuttleworth arrived in Tallahassee after a successful 14-year MLS career. He finished his time in 13th placeth all-time goalkeepers in MLS in regular season matches played with 232 during stints with the New England Revolution, Minnesota United FC, Chicago Fire FC and Atlanta United from 2009-22.
He finished with 81 wins and 53 clean sheets during his professional career. In 2014, Shuttleworth was in the woodwork as New England advanced to the MLS Cup final.
During his playing years at Revolution, Shuttleworth cut his teeth in the coaching profession as an assistant coach for the Bentley University men’s team from 2010-2016.
The Tonawanda, New York native is entrusted with one of the most storied programs in college football. The Aggies enter the 2026 campaign as the only team in the SEC and the state of Texas to reach the 500 win plateau.
“I am committed to honoring the winning tradition that has defined Texas A&M football by continuing to compete for championships at the highest level,” Shuttleworth said. “We will strive to develop high-performance players while helping them grow as students, leaders, teammates and high-value individuals. Our goal is to create an environment in which student-athletes are challenged to reach their full potential on the field while being fully supported in their personal, academic and life development off it.”
Shuttleworth enjoyed a prolific playing career at the University at Buffalo. He is the school’s all-time leader in goals against average and has 21 wins. He received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from UB.
