On the eve of the Réunion of the High Tension Cup from India with Pakistan, the Dubai International Stadium training ground experienced a comforting moment which softens part of the pre-match tension.Abhishek Sharma’s father Raj Kumar Sharma visited a training session late Saturday, waiting patiently outside the borderline with a large smile while the players finished their session. The identification, Abhishek, Shubman Gill and Arshdeep Singh found themselves. The trio exchanged hugs with him before Gill, the vice-captain of India, leaned to touch the feet of the Sharma Senior in a gesture of respect which made warm smiles all around.The latter also praised Gill as “Kaptaan Saab”. The 26-year-old acts as vice-captain of the Asian Cup, but led the side in the series of tests against England earlier. The players were then seen to share jokes and light conversations with Abhishek’s father, relaxing the spirits in what was otherwise a tense accumulation of Sunday’s confrontation.

Earlier in the day, there had been a time of concern when Gill was struck by hand while he was hitting in the nets. The physio rushed to take care of him, and the striker was briefly left in visible discomfort, even sitting on the ice box with teammates by his side. Captain Suryakumar Yadav and head coach Gautam Gambir were seen by checking him, while Abhishek Sharma helped him open a bottle of water while the physio continued his evaluation.
