“Shubman Gill must have been on the cup in Asia, Gautam Gambir jumped at the last minute” – shocking details emerge

The Indian test skipper Shubman Gill has now been appointed Vice-Capitaine T20i for the Asian Cup, replacing Axar Patel of the previous series, while the decision introduces new controversies, reports claim that it was not a simple decision since Ajit Agarkar had other preferences.

The big Indian striker Shubman Gill played for the last time a T20I series for India in July against Sri Lanka. Since then, India has played three T20I series against Bangladesh, South Africa and England, but Gill has not been part of any of the aforementioned series.

Gill, who was invited to focus on the two remaining formats of the game, was appointed test skipper for India after Rohit Sharma announced his retirement. Since his appointment, Gill has dominated Indian cricket and has now been classified as the best contenders for a future role as a all -format skipper.

Ajit Agarkar announced Shubman Gill as vice-captain of the Asian Cup

After the Indian team was selected and Jit Agarkar, alongside the Skipper Suryakumar Yadav, attended the press conference for announcing the Asian Cup team, the name he took first was that of Shubman Gill.

While Agarkar appointed Shubman’s return to the T20i Indian configuration, he also said he was appointed vice-captain of the team. After him, the 14 remaining members of the team were announced, including the Skipper Suryakumar Yadav.

The skipper and the selector clearly indicated that Shubman Gill, although he has not played a T20i game for over a year, has always been an integral part of the T20i side and was the initial choice of vice-captain announced after the triumph of the T20 World Cup.

Gill was not the first choice for the vice-captain

According to reports claimed by the Indian Express, the appointment of Shubman Gill as an Indian vice-captain was a decision very considered by the Indian management.

It has been revealed that the panel of Indian selectors weighed on options such as the versatile Axar Patel as vice-captain. He was appointed Indian vice-captain in the T20 England series due to the unavailability of Shubman Gill for the series.

However, finally, they were also inclined to Gill, quoting a player who could be a key figure in the future leadership structure in India. Head coach Gautam Gambir, who joined them virtually, also accepted Gill’s appointment, because a younger player could be better treated.

Agarkar reveals: “Gill was always one of the plans.”

Ajit Agarkar revealed that Gill was still part of the plans of Indian management, because a young skipper could one day be a world class leader.

“He was vice-captain when we played Sri Lanka. But after that, he was occupied by test cricket,” said Agarkar. “We obviously see leadership qualities in him, and his shape in England was what we hoped. He has exceeded all our expectations, which is a big sign when there is so much pressure as captain. ”

Suryakumar Yadav, the current skipper on the Indian T20i side, also argued the decision to appoint Shubman Gill as his assistant in the continental championship.

“Gill was still part of the Indian T20 side of the first choice,” said Suryakumar. “He missed because of other commitments and injuries, but the leadership group has always believed in its potential.”
