Shreyas Iyer issues new health update ahead of South Africa series

Indian national cricket team’s star batsman Shreyas Iyer has released a new update on his health after suffering a serious injury during the recent ODI series against the Australian national cricket team.
Shreyas Iyer took to Instagram to post a new update on his health on Monday, November 10, as the Indian national cricket team prepares for the upcoming all-format series against the South African national cricket team at home.
Shreyas Iyer suffered a near-fatal injury
Punjab Kings captain and Indian ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer was part of an unfortunate incident during the three-match ODI series against the Australia national cricket team.

He suffered a freak injury during the third ODI against the Australia national cricket team while playing at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Iyer was injured on impact after catching a running back from point to dismiss keeper-batsman Alex Carey. Just after grabbing a blinker, he looked painful and immediately grabbed his ribcage.
The physio came running to the ground and took Shreyas Iyer off the field. He was quickly transported to the hospital for further evaluation and then admitted to intensive care.
Later, a report revealed that Iyer’s injury was more serious than it appeared and things could have gotten worse if he had not received adequate treatment on the field by the BCCI doctors.
Shreyas Iyer provides new update
Iyer actually suffered a laceration of the spleen with internal bleeding and underwent a minor procedure before being released from the hospital on November 1.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) provided constant updates on the batter throughout his hospital stay and revealed that Dr Koroush Haghighi and his team in Sydney, along with Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala of India, ensured that Shreyas Iyer received the best treatment for his injury.
Meanwhile, on Monday, November 10, Iyer shared a photo of himself on the beach with the caption, “The sun has been great therapy, grateful to be back, thanks for all the love and care,” clearly mentioning that he is completely fine now.

Gautam Gambhir not happy with Indian T20I team
Recently, the BCCI shared an interview with Gautam Gambhir on its official website in which the head coach said that they are lucky to have star all-rounders like Axar Patel and Washington Sundar in the T20I but added that they are currently far from where they want to be heading into the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. He said:
“For me, I think they will play a very, very important role in the World Cup. And not just the World Cup, not just in the subcontinent conditions, the quality they have, I think they will flourish in most conditions as well. And that’s why I think Washi’s evolution over the last 7-8 months has been a huge success for Indian cricket.
“Axar is batting at No. 5. Again, I have been given a lot of responsibility to bat at No. 5 in the Champions Trophies and exceptionally well. Bowls are tough, powerplay bowls, bowls in the middle. So I think we have enough options. But again, we are still not where we want to be in 3 months. Hopefully we will be there.”
