Video collages and thirsty comments dedicated to the CEO of Tiktok, Shou Zi Chew, began to appear on the platform after the CEO Testimony at Congress Yesterday, when he spent five hours defending the platform before the Chamber’s energy and trade committee.
On Tiktok, the changes in fans dedicated to the 40 -year -old man declared him “Tiktok Daddy” and “the best CEO of our generation”.
Chew was in the hot headquarters of legislative issues on the future of the popular video sharing app, which currently has more than 150 million monthly users in the United States only.
Democratic and republican politicians have expressed concerns about the China based parent -based society and what it means for user security, data confidentiality and national security. Some legislators have requested that the platform be prohibited in the United States on the concerns that its parent company, Bytedance, can or share US user data with the Chinese government. In his testimony, Chew said that there was no evidence that the Chinese government had never accessed user data.
“Let me say unequivocally: Byédance is not an agent in China or any other country,” said Chew written declaration It began his testimony.
There are currently three bills in the congress that could affect US access to Tiktok. Two would legislate a pure and simple ban on the platform, while the other would give the government the power to prohibit all technologies which are considered a risk of national security.
The hearing of yesterday put Tiktok’s CEO under the spotlight, because he said that the prohibition of the application would be harmful to millions of American companies, and that a new subsidiary named Texas Project would provide a significant solution that would allow the application to remain active in the United States.
While the legislators did not seem convinced, the Defense of Chew of demand, including his praise for subcommunications within the application, like “Booktok”, a community for people to discuss reading recommendations, seemed to put an agreement with those who found inspiration on the platform.
Online, an increasing group of creators seems to be impressed by the performance of Chew despite the tense nature of the audience and showed their admiration in the most organic way: by creating modifications and memes of fans.
