Shooter accused of threatening to kill Miami-Dade barber is convicted felon, records show

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — The 48-year-old disgruntled customer accused of threatening a barber at gunpoint in Miami-Dade County is a convicted felon, and deputies described him as a “known violent offender,” records show.

Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies identified the shooter who shouted threats — despite the presence of children — Nov. 25 at Square Biz in Perrine as Darious Davis, records show.

“The defendant was in custody as of today on unrelated charges,” an M-DSO deputy wrote on Nov. 29, according to an arrest report claiming he worked for “Transit.”

Deputies arrested Davis after a traffic stop. Inmate records show Davis was booked Nov. 28 for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and he remained at the Metrowest Detention Center as of Monday morning.

Samuel Wilson, the owner of Square Biz, shared surveillance video of the November 25 attack. He told deputies Davis had been a customer for about a year, according to the arrest report.

“He was not a man when he had that gun,” Wilson told Local 10 News. “He hit me in the head with it and choked me.”

Court records show Davis’ convictions include possession of cocaine in 1993, armed robbery charges in 1993 and 1998, and burglary with assault in 1998.

Florida Department of Corrections records show he was in prison from March 1999 to October 2004; and from November 2006 to September 2017.

Court records show prosecutors filed a new gun possession charge on Nov. 29 and a new charge for the Nov. 25 attack on Nov. 30. Davis appeared in bail court on November 29 and 30.

A judge ordered Davis to stay away from the victim and Square Biz and ordered house arrest once he is released on bond, records show.

Davis faced four charges in the Nov. 25 attack: aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a firearm, use of a firearm to commit a felony and improper exhibition of a weapon.

Bail court judges allowed Davis to be released on his own recognizance on charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and improper exhibition of a weapon. His bond on other charges was $35,000.

Inmate records show Davis posted bond Monday afternoon. Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Zachary James was scheduled to preside over the two new cases.
