Shohei Ohtani will present himself for the first time since 2023, when he will start for the host Los Angeles Dodgers against the Padres of San Diego at the opening of a series of three games on Monday.

Manager Dave Roberts told journalists before the Dodgers’ 5-4 victory against the San Francisco giants on Sunday that Ohtani would present another simulated match and that his return would be as soon as possible.

“Sooner” became Monday evening.

The right -hander has not launched since August 23, 2023, when he was a member of the Los Angeles Angels.

He underwent Tommy John surgery in September 2023, three months before signing a $ 700 million contract over 10 years with the Dodgers.

Ohtani launched a 44 -point simulated match on Tuesday against the minor Dodgers league.

Roberts said post-match on Sunday that Ohtani would serve as an opening.

“Shohei is getting impatient,” said Roberts. “He’s ready to launch in a big league match. I guess it’s a round to start.”

During his career in the majors, Ohtani has a period of 38-19 years with an MPM of 3.01 in 86 career departures, all with the Angels. In 481 2/23 rounds, he compiled 608 stick withdrawals and 173 steps.

Ohtani has a life of 0-1 against the padres with a 9.00 MPM.

His return could not arrive at a better time because the Dodgers have 14 launchers on the injured list, the most in the majors.

The Padres will counter with the right-hander Dylan ceases (2-5, 4.28 ERA), which was at its best during his last departure when he launched seven laundry rounds, abandoning only three strokes and withdrawing 11 in a 11-1 victory against the Dodgers. It was the second time this season, he recorded two -digit stick withdrawals.

It was an essential victory to stop, which had lost its last five decisions and had not won since his second start to the season on April 2.

“What he did today is an excellent plan for what he has to do,” said Padres manager Mike Shildt after the Dodgers victory. “He made two strikes of first two steps on the strikers and it gives him out earlier. A hundred land in seven -rounds is roughly the recipe.”

Cease started 14 games and abandoned 69 strokes, 38 points and eight circuits. He walked 29 and withdrew 96 in 75 2/3 innings.

The Cessor is 59-51 for life with an MPM of 3.79 in 170 departures. He is 2-1 with an MPM of 1.95 in his career against the Dodgers.

The Padres offensive suffered a blow on Sunday when the field player in the Star Center Jackson Merrill was placed on the seven -day concussion list of concussion after a hard label by Ketel Marte de l’Arizona on Saturday evening.

“I think the best thing is that he is able to keep food and he had appetite, so it was encouraging,” said Shildt on Sunday. “But other than that, I mean, he was not himself, so it’s going to be a few days and I hope he goes with us to Los Angeles, return to San Diego, rest and, hope, recover as quickly as he can.”

The 22-year-old was struggling to match his 2024 All-Star campaign.

He is one of the six strikers in the national league with 170 or more bats this season to strike at least 0.300 Sunday. But after having played 156 games last year, he limited himself to only 44 competitions while a right-winging strain changed the first part of his season.
