A cruise ship was forced to evacuate due to a threat of bomb.

At around 11:46 am, local time on Saturday August 9, police were called to the Ferry Terminal de Cruise Mayflower in Southampton, England, after having received information “from a man claiming to be in possession of an explosive device,” said Hampshire police in a statement obtained by people.

The officers searched a large truck near the location and ITV News reported that the police had formed a large barricade as they were investigating the P&O Cruises Ventura ship.

Hampshire police later confirmed that no explosive apparatus was located during the excavation. “We are convinced that there was no risk to the public,” they said.

Authorities said that a 63 -year -old man had been arrested for suspicion of a public order offense and communicated with false information. He was then released on bail, and he had a court hearing for November 8.

A spokesperson for P&O Cruises said in a press release by ITV News“Due to a previous police incident and an abundance of caution, we have made the decision to evacuate Ventura and the passenger terminal.”

“The security of our customers, the crew and the port personnel is our greatest priority and we are grateful for the cooperation of the authorities, as well as the patience of each during the precautionary measures,” continued the representative.

A passenger who witnessed the arrest declared to the point of sale that he had seen the man “being dragged by his car by six armed police officers” with “Tasers and Guns”.

The eyewitness added that he had seen the staff “keeping people away” from the cruise ship, while “a few thousand” were waiting to get on the ship.

The Southampton site where research has taken place is carried out by associated British ports, according to ITV News.

A company spokesperson said to The Outlet: “We are aware of a security incident that occurred at the port this morning on Saturday August 9. The police attended the scene and we have since been withdrawn. We will support any investigation in progress by the competent authorities.”
