Shiloh Christian (AR) leads Fort Smith Southside (AR) 45-24 in 2nd half: Score, live updates from key 6A-West Conference tilt

Two teams with powerful offenses face off in a key 6A-West Arkansas Conference contest.

Springdale’s Shiloh Christian travels south to River Valley to take on Fort Smith Southside, with both teams vying for a high seed in the conference playoffs.

Shiloh enters the game 3-2 and 1-1 in conference, after outlasting Mountain Home last week, 55-41. The Saints’ only two losses were to the defending state champions, 6A champion Greenwood in the 6A-West opener and Oklahoma 3A champion Tulsa Lincoln Christian.

Southside (4-1, 1-1) has already matched its win total from a season ago. The Mavericks are coming off a wild 49-44 win last week at home against Lake Hamilton.

FOURTH QUARTER

TOUCHDOWN SHILOH CHRISTIAN. Max Eldridge with a hat trick, as he scored his third touchdown of the evening, from 2 meters. The Saints move back at 9 p.m. (Shiloh Christian, 45-24 | 10:05 a.m., 4th)

THIRD QUARTER

– Shiloh back in the Southside 30 as the third quarter draws to a close.

LANDING ON THE SOUTH SIDE. The Mavericks aren’t going away as they respond in the next series. On a fourth down from the Shiloh 10, QB Wilson Key – replacing injured Blake Forsgren – found Sebastian Luht in the back of the end zone. (Shiloh Christian, 38-24 | 1:31, 3rd)

TOUCHDOWN SHILOH CHRISTIAN. The Saints respond after a long kickoff return, which leads to a 20-yard TD pass from Cole Creighton to Cohen Beach. (Shiloh Christian, 38-17 | 6:44, 3rd)

LANDING ON THE SOUTH SIDE. A short run by Colton Viengthong puts the Mavericks within two scores. (Shiloh Christian, 31-17 | 7:26, 3rd)

– Southside keeps its drive alive with an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on third down and a roughing the passer penalty on fourth down.

TOUCHDOWN AND CONVERSION 2 POINT SHILOH CHRISTIAN. The Saints quickly took advantage of Southside’s mistake, as Max Eldridge hit it from 8 yards out; then Westin Huckeba runs it for the two-point conversion. (Shiloh Christian, 31-10 | 10:14, 3rd)

SHILOH CHRISTIAN TAKEAWAY. Southside forces Shiloh to punt, but the Mavericks fumble on the return and the Saints’ Cohen Beach recovers just past midfield.

HALF TIME

– Shiloh Christian with two touchdowns in the last three minutes of the first half and now has a 13-point lead at the break.

SECOND QUARTER

TOUCHDOWN SHILOH CHRISTIAN. The Saints take advantage of the fumble and Max Eldridge recovers it 2 meters away. The Saints then kick the PAT. (Shiloh Christian, 23-10 | :28, 2nd)

SHILOH CHRISTIAN TAKEAWAY. Mac Kimbrow gets a strip sack and Zach Rowe recovers the loose ball at the Southside 19 at the end of the half.

TOUCHDOWN AND CONVERSION 2 POINT SHILOH CHRISTIAN. The Saints regained the lead on the next drive as Cole Creighton threw a 13-yard pass to Cohen Beach. Creighton then finds Chandler Kemp for two more points. (Shiloh Christian, 16-10 | 2:55, 2nd)

SOUTH SIDE FIELD GOAL. Drive stalls for the Mavs, but Rodrigo Hernandez comes in to score a 27-yard field goal, putting Southside in front for the first time tonight. (South Side, 10-8 | 5:51, 2nd)

– Pass interference on Shiloh gives Southside a first down at the Shiloh 11 nearing the halfway point of the quarter.

– Southside moves inside the Shiloh 25, looking to take the lead.

– Shiloh attempts the fourth down near the Southside 30, but a pass towards the end zone is knocked away and the Mavericks hold.

– Shiloh completes a third pass and is in Southside territory.

– Shiloh has the ball near their 45 as the second quarter begins.

FIRST QUARTER

– Southside must clear at the end of the first quarter.

– Shiloh advances inside the Southside 30, but turns it over on downs as a fourth-down pass falls incomplete.

LANDING ON THE SOUTH SIDE. The Mavericks shake off the early mistake and move down the field to get on the board, as on third-and-goal from the 3, QB Blake Forsgren rolls to his right and finds WR Peyton Zimmerman. Southside chooses to evict the PAT. (Shiloh Christian, 8-7 | 3:41, 1st)

TOUCHDOWN AND TWO-POINT CONVERSION SHILOH CHRISTIAN. The Saints go for fourth and goal at the 6. Quarterback Cole Creighton looks for a receiver and pulls him. The ball is knocked down, but it lands in the hands of Chandler Kemp. Creighton then found Cohen Beach for two more points. (Shiloh Christian, 8-0 | 6:50, 1st)

INTERCEPTION SHILOH CHRISTIAN. The live action resumes, as the Saints’ Corbin Miller recovers a pass in his own 25 and finds open space before being taken down at the Southside 9, where the Saints will be on offense for the first time tonight.

– The cart is on the field and they’re taking Southside lineman Colby Castling on it. He raises his right arm as he is led away.

– We have overtime here, as a Southside lineman is on the ground with what appears to be a problem with one of his legs.

– Southside with two first downs, the latest a long pass from Blake Forsgren to Peyton Zimmerman after a holding penalty, and the Mavericks have the ball near the Shiloh 35.

– Shiloh will kick off for Southside to start the match.

– Shiloh Christian wins the toss and returns in the second half.
