Cristobal del Solar, Thorbjorn Olesen Shares Canadian Open Lead

Caledon, Ontario – Cristobal del Solar came out of the Korn Ferry tour with the nickname “M. 57”. He flirted with a 59 Thursday afternoon late in the RBC Canadian Open.

Ten under two holes left on the arrangement by 70, del Solar a Bogey the 17th 17th and corrected the 18th by 5 for a 9-mine of 61 and a part of the head of the first round with Thorbjorn Olesen of Denmark.

“I was just trying to hit good shots.” Del Solar said. “I was just trying to stay in the present and have fun. This is what I was trying to do.”

Del Solar, the PGA Tour 31 -year -old recruit from Chile, and Olsen took advantage of the gentle Greens on the northern route of TPC Toronto at the Osprey valley after the rain on Wednesday evening which continued until morning.

Del Solar obtained the nickname “Mr. 57” in February 2024 when he pulled a 13 under 57 in the first round of the Astara golf championship in Colombia for the lowest score in a event punishable by the PGA.

On Thursday, Del Solar had seven birdies in an eight holes section in the middle of the round. The former Florida State player made a sip of Birdie of 6 1/2 feet on the 14th par-3 and ran in a 15 1/2 feet on the 16th par-4 to reach 10 sous.

On the 17th, he struck a bunker on the right, exploded at 10 feet and missed the putt from the right. Need an eagle out of 18 for a 59, he led Roughly to the left, then hit his second about 80 meters from the green.

“I just want to go and execute each plan,” said Del Solar. “I think everyone is sometimes advancing himself and thinks of the result or anything. You just want to go out and hit golf strokes.”

Olesen helped the 18th – his ninth hole of the day – and had eight birdies and a Bogey on the course organizing the national championship for the first time.

“Obviously, I played very well, but my putting was exceptional today,” said Olesen. “I don’t think I missed putts really there. I definitely put a few long. It was good to see everything in.”

Olesen qualified for the US Open next week in Oakmont on Monday, haunting a 15 -foot Birdie putt on the last hole in Lambton in Toronto.

“I took a lot of this last putt,” said Olesen.

The beginners of the afternoon held the first eight places and 15 of the first 18, with the champion of the Masters Rory McILroy by bogging the last two morning holes in 71.

“He missed a few greens and did not do them from top to bottom, in particular these last holes,” said McILroy, winner of the tournament in 2019 in Hamilton and 2022 in St. George’s.

Del Solar and Olesen were a stroke on the 60 tournament record set by Carl Pettersson in 2010 in the third round in St. George’s, and accompanied by Justin Rose in the fourth round in 2022, also in St. George’s.

Cameron Champ fired a 62, Jake Knapp had a 63 and Rasmus Hojgaard, Shane Lowry, Trey Mullinax and Ricky Castillo were 64 years old. Knapp fired 59 in March in the first round of Cognizing Classic.

Canadian Taylor Pendrith was 65 years old with title champion Robert Macintyre. Alex Smalley, Paul Peterson, Danny Willett, Rafael Campos, Kevin Yu, Alejandro Tosti and Paul Waring. Macintyre won last year in Hamilton.

Canadian Nick Taylor, winner of 2023 in Oakdale, opened with a 66.
