Shari Redstone reveals the diagnosis of thyroid cancer, recent surgery

The World Chair of Paramount Shari Redstone revealed that it had undergone surgery for thyroid cancer in May after being diagnosed earlier this year.

A Redstone spokesperson said: “Shari Redstone received a thyroid cancer diagnosis earlier this spring. Although this was a difficult period, it maintains all professional and philanthropic activities throughout its treatment, which is underway. She and her family are grateful that her prognosis is excellent. ”

Redstone, 71, is trying to conclude the agreement with high issues with Skydance Media who will see him merge with Paramount, the owner of CBS and other television stations, streaming platforms and paramount images. This agreement was concluded in July 2024 but remains in limbo, because it has still not been approved by the FCC, led by Trump Ally Brendan Carr. She is also dealing with a trial brought by President Trump against the CBS news division for a “60 -minute” interview with Kamala Harris.

His diagnosis of cancer is another difficult wrinkle in the already tangled situation that Redstone has worked to resolve.

According to the New York Times, which said the story for the first time, Redstone said that she had consulted the doctors about two months ago after having tested fatigue and other symptoms. She underwent surgery to remove her thyroid gland, but the surgeons could not remove the cancer cells that had spread to her vocal cords. It continues to be treated with radiation, said the spokesperson.

Redstone had shared the news of his diagnosis with David Ellison, the Skydance chief, and with family members and close friends. If and when the Paramount-Skydance agreement ends, Redstone will leave the board of directors of the merged company.
