‘Shame and tragedy’: John Cooper makes a daring proclamation on Michael Tait

Skillet’s main singer, John Cooper, uses his voice to strongly condemn the alleged actions of Michael Tait.
Cooper called the allegations against the former singer of the ex-Newboys “a shame and a tragedy for the Church” and urged other members of the Christian music industry to issue a “full-fledged condemnation[s] of these acts.
“I feel a burden of the Lord,” he said on his podcast “Cooper Stuff”. “The Lord would not let me rest. I was so conflict. I don’t want to do that, but the Lord would not leave me alone on this subject. Because I must be honest, I am very dissatisfied with the comments that I saw of CCM which seem so strongly acquired in the idea, which has a certain truth, of “hey, is it without sin.” Obviously, these things are true, but that’s not where we have to start. »»
Cooper continued: “We need a full -fledged conviction of these acts, and not a conviction of people. We do not condemn people. We condemn people’s actions. Naked shamelessly, shamelessly, we do not shrink. ”
The allegations against Tait include the allegations of predatory behavior of several years, to look at rape and to attack young men, including two minors. While the 59 -year -old star has published initial apology, admission does not cover the extent of the many accusations against him.
Without an unshakable condemnation of the alleged actions of Tait, the greatest “Christian testimony in the world is at stake”, adding that the victims of the singer’s choices should be “prioritized”.
“My goal is those who have been victims, allegedly mistreated, sexually assaulted by Michael Tait,” said Cooper, describing the alleged actions of Tait as “very dark”.
He then argued that people in the contemporary Christian music industry – and believers write – should in no case minimize the gravity of affirmations against Tait.
“It is inappropriate to jump directly [a mentality of]”We must be loving, we are all sinners, we are all below and we cannot pass judgment,” he explained. “Yes, we are all sinners. There is a time for that. … But there are categories at the front that we cannot ignore. »»
He believes that mismanagement scandals like Tait could have a significant impact on the Christian witness.
“What kind of gospel do we display in the world when … our largest and most famous Christian music icons … say:” I have lived a double life from the start? ” He asked.
Grace should certainly not overshadow justice, he noted, but she still has an important role to play.
Cooper also addressed those who described the allegations of “police secret” in the world of the CCM, explaining that he finds “very difficult to believe”.
“I didn’t know that,” he said. “I find it very difficult to believe that everyone in CCM knew that there were alleged victims of sexual assault.”
The comments of the singer of the skillet intervene after the chief of Christian worship, Cory Asbury, said “everyone knew” the alleged sins of Tait. In addition, while the singer-songwriter Rhett Walker said Tait should go to “prison” if all the allegations against him were proven, he urged prudence towards those who seek to dismantle the whole CCM industry.
“I know many artists, radio, promoters and so on who aim to share the gospel,” he wrote.
