Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued North of Zion National Park

KANE COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — The National Weather Service (NWS) in Salt Lake City has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for north-central Washington County in southwestern Utah.
At 6:40 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located near Veyo, Utah, or 23 miles east of Beaver Dam, moving northeast at 25 mph. This warning is in effect until 7:30 p.m.
Hail the size of a ping-pong ball can be expected, authorities said. Affected locations include Dameron Valley, Pine Valley and Veyo.
“People and animals outside will be harmed,” the warning states. “Expect damage to roofs, siding, windows and vehicles. »
“Large hail, damaging winds, and continued lightning from clouds to the ground are occurring with this storm. Go indoors immediately,” the warning states. “Lightning is one of nature’s biggest killers. Remember, if you hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.”
Torrential rains occur with this story, which could lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle on flooded roads.

KANE COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — The National Weather Service (NWS) in Salt Lake City has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for northwest Kane County in southern Utah.
Just after 4:40 p.m., the NWS located a severe thunderstorm 13 miles southeast of Cedar Breaks National Monument or 20 miles northeast of Zion National Park, moving east at 20 mph. This warning is in effect until 5:30 p.m. Friday.
The warning called for hail the size of a half dollar. Vehicle damage is expected.
Locations that will be primarily impacted include Alton and Long Valley Junction, including U.S. Route 89 between mileposts 100 and 107.
“This storm is capable of producing all types of severe weather, including extremely large hail, damaging straight-line winds, and tornadoes,” the NWS warning states. “Move quickly to a safe shelter such as an interior room, bathroom, closet or basement. »
Large hail, damaging winds, torrential rain, and continuous lightning from clouds to the ground would be associated with this storm. Rainfall could also cause flash flooding, authorities said.
