Several students injured in a school bus accident carrying more than 40 children on the first day of return to school

A Texas school bus carrying more than 40 students rolled up on the side after shooting a road on the way to deposit the students after their first day of lessons, injuring 12 people, the authorities said.

The bus was carrying 43 people – 42 children and the bus driver – some of whom have suffered serious injuries, said Austin -Travis county officials.

The incident occurred around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, when the school bus, traveling south on Nameless Road, left the right side of the road “for an unknown reason” and was overthrown, the sergeant of the Ministry of Public Security. Billy Ray said at a press conference.

The preliminary investigation into the accident is still underway, said Ray.

Twelve people were transported to local hospitals. At least one person has potentially fatal injuries, while two others have “potentially deadly injuries,” said deputy chief Kevin Parker, with the emergency medical services of the county of Austin-Travis, at the press conference.

The victims were not appointed. The driver was one of the people taken to the hospital, officials said.

“This tragedy this afternoon really breaks our hearts this afternoon,” said the superintendent of the independent school district of Leander, Bruce Gearing, noting that the community is still in shock from the floods that devastated the state last month.

The bus, a vehicle in 2024 equipped with state -regulated safety belts, was mainly used to transport students from Baghdad primary school, said Gearing.

No student had yet been deposited when the bus destroyed, added the superintendent.

“We want each of these students and their families to know that our prayers are with them, our thoughts are with them and we will do everything we can in our power to support them,” he said.

Photos captured the damaged yellow school bus, switched to the side of the rural road, with a broken windshield.

The officials said that the Baptiste Church of Round Mountain was used as a reunification site.
