Several people missing, 1 death possible after explosion at Tennessee explosives manufacturer, sources confirm

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – An explosion was reported Friday morning at a Tennessee explosives manufacturer in Hickman County.

A source confirmed to WSMV4 that several people are missing and one may be dead.

The Hickman County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed an explosion at Accurate Energetic Systems near Bucksnort.

HCSO said emergency crews were on scene to address the situation and asked people to avoid the area to allow first responders to work effectively.

According to its website, Accurate Energetic Systems, LLC was established in 1980 and “dedicated to the development, manufacturing, handling and storage of high quality energy products used in the defense and commercial markets.”

The Tennessee Department of Transportation has closed SR 230, also known as Tanyard Branch Road, north of I-40 in the Bucksnort area.

In 2020, the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development announced an expansion of AES to McEwen, near Bucksnort.

The expansion was expected to create 80 jobs at the 1,300-acre site in Humphreys and Hickman counties.

It is at this site that AES operates a comprehensive laboratory and testing range, according to TDECD.
